Video: Perry’s cringe-worthiest debate moment

I mentioned Rick Perry’s DREAM Act debate blunder in my round-up post.

It gets second place.

The cringe-worthiest moment, by a hair, was when Perry botched what should have been his most potent attack on Mitt Romney’s chronic flip-flopping. As I noted on Twitter when it happened, any random high schooler at the CPAC conference in Washington could have done better than this.

If this is how Perry’s going to take Obama on in debates, we’re in trouble. Someone inject him with some Red Bull and a dash of Herman Cain’s personality.
**snip**

Perry said he’s in favor of making English the official language of the U.S. Perhaps he should concentrate on mastering it before the next debate

However, Romney showed he’s far more disciplined on his feet, than Perry.

I agree with you. You don't have to like or support Romney to see he is a polished debater who is quick on his feet.

I think Perry will start on Romney now - and some of it will be effective (Perry can be charismatic).

I hope so. I have believed Perry was probably our best option for awhile now, but his ineffective debate performances are a major concern.

IMHO yesterday’s debate was one of the most informative, I’ve ever seen. Very good moderating.

I agree with you. I don't get why some people are complaining about it. I thought the debate was quite good and very informative.

Here’s the thing. If re-elected, Obama will further damage America. If elected, Romney or Perry will further damage America.

If it is Obama, the Democrats will get the blame and open the door for real Conservatives to take over in 2016. If Perry/Romney get elected “conservatives” will get the blame for the damage they do and there will be little hope for this country.

Both scenarios are grim, but at least the “Obama further wrecks the country and the Democrats get the blame” scenario has a glimmer of hope it in down the road.

Of course, the real solution is to REJECT both scenarios and nominate a REAL conservative like Palin or Bachmann and have that conservative win the general election.

“Listen, if Cain or Gingrich can somehow surge out of the single digits and win this somehow, I will do backflips, but that isn’t going to happen.”

“In the real world, this is a two man race, and in that world debates wont matter, money, message, and record will and in that debate, Romney will lose everywhere that matters in Republican primaries. Romney can not win in the south or the west, he will take a handful of Northeastern liberal states, along with possibly Arizona and Utah and Perry will sweep the rest. Heck most of those people on stage last night wont even be in the race 2 months from now.”

You are right, but nobody is going to surge out of that pack of 7 other candidate also-rans, and I think at least 3 will drop in 2 weeks from now.

But, the next debate is scheduled for Oct. 11. two and a half weeks from now - and I predict that by then at least two new candidates will throw their hat in the ring.

I never go on negative threads against Perry. I’ve seen the childish attacks against Perry and it is a waste of time.

BINGO!!!! You heartless pervert :). Actually compassion is OK, as long as it is your money you are spending. So Perry can spend all his money he wants on illegals, but I am damn sick and tired of government flunkies taking mine and spending it on illegals.

>>>This is exactly the way I see it. I believed Perry was probably the best compromise candidate, but his debate performances have been truly awful. Some of what he said on immigration particularly was downright off putting. <<<

It is not really his debate “performance” that bothered me. If he stumbled and stammered but stood for the right things, I’d be a bit concerned, but still back him.

But when he LIED about the influence the cancer patient had on his decision to mandate Gardasil and claimed that those who think it is wrong to steal tax dollar from hard working Americans to subsidize college tuition for illegal aliens invaders, “don’t have a heart”, he lost me forever.

Not only did he not debate well, some of his statements were down right offensive.

I agree with TexasFreeper2009 that this is still a two-person race, Perry and Romney, but I also believe Perry put a bit of a pinhole in his bouncing tent.

He needs to get out there, patch his little hole, and give his supporters some fresh air after last night's debate so that little pinhole doesn't get bigger and his supporters won't hyperventilate after last night's less-than-stellar performance; and he needs to start focusing on getting "himself" out there instead of comparing himself to Romney.

If you can, please check out post 80 of this thread. If Perry were giving out INFORMATION and correcting the falsehoods out there on some of his vulnerable issues, I think he would still have lost some on this one issue, but he would not have done the damage that he did last night with his "heartless" comment.

Wrong. One should be able to convey points articulately WITHOUT INSULTING THOSE WHO DISAGREE. Especially a president. MARK MY WORDS.

Didn’t watch the debate, and haven’t seen the video clip, but I heard some of Perry’s meandering, stumbling replies on talk radio this morning. He sounded like someone who was trying to speak coherently after being suddenly awoken in the middle of the night.

All that “compassionate conservatism” over illegals didn’t sit well, either.

You folks need to be worried about Mittens as your nominee and that should scare the hell out of you...this is who they are pushing...because Sarah Palin isn’t going to run...

“He seemed completely confused, was rambling and appeared to be talking to himself. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like it in a national debate.”

“Like Rush said, seems like Perry loses energy at about 1 hour into a debate.”

This can be explained easily. You did not hear about the back problems, and the major back surgery he underwent just before he announced his candidacy.

Similar to my experience. I spent many hours defending Bush on all sorts of varied issues, but the very day he referred to citizens trying to put a halt to the insanity of the open-border as “vigilantes,” I stopped defending him entirely. On everything. I never uttered a single word in support of him to anyone on any issue ever again. Ever.

I believe Perry is entering similar territory with me now. I’ve already been warning folks on this board about his weakness on border/illegals issues, following years of observing him here in Texas. Just so people knew. Anyway, with these two debate examples (”the sound of your last name” and “you have no heart”), he’s pretty much outed himself, solidifying my mistrust in him. These are the kind of statements that turn me from a plain critic of some of his stances to really starting to loathe him.

It is a big deal when I try to sign up for a college class and they want to charge me out-of-state tuition even though I’ve lived and worked here for 7 years. But the kid of an illegal gets to take the same class for free. So my mother defected here from Cuba and did everything right and became a citizen and her son is charged a fee I can’t afford just because I’m an American citizen who wasn’t born in Texas.

Cain, Newt and Santorum were good. Perry reminded me of the good old boy who tried to seduce me in front of my boyfriend’s back with “it’s okay God will forgive us”.

It was the first debate I have watched, and I watched to get a measure of Perry.

He was truly awful, far worse than I expected. His supporters can no longer defend his milquetoast positions, his pandering and bumbling was on stage for all to see, he was an embarrassment.

I actually expected better, thinking the negative descriptions I read about his earlier performances must have been exaggerated. They're not.

you have no business being on a conservative website. Your arguments have logic holes big enough to drive a truck through and are not conservative. Fail.
