This is exactly the way I see it. I believed Perry was probably the best compromise candidate, but his debate performances have been truly awful. Some of what he said on immigration particularly was downright off putting.
We don't need another President who can't think on their feet or communicate effectively. This is the problem that plagued Bush, and Perry seems as if he could be just as poor at getting his message across.
What is striking about Perry is his complete inability to shut any of the criticisms of him down. He just can't answer any of his weaknesses effectively enough to put them to bed. My gosh, he is still allowing himself to beat up over the stupid Gardasil issue, yet Romney is slick enough to walk away nearly untouched on Romneycare.
slick...
you are on to something but don’t realize it.
I don’t want to go too far out on a limb, this is FR after all, and this poster would never want to incur the wrath of Jim Thompson over a debate critique.
However, Romney showed he’s far more disciplined on his feet, than Perry.
I think Perry will start on Romney now - and some of it will be effective (Perry can be charismatic).
IMHO yesterday’s debate was one of the most informative, I’ve ever seen. Very good moderating.
Very well done debate.

It is not really his debate “performance” that bothered me. If he stumbled and stammered but stood for the right things, I’d be a bit concerned, but still back him.
But when he LIED about the influence the cancer patient had on his decision to mandate Gardasil and claimed that those who think it is wrong to steal tax dollar from hard working Americans to subsidize college tuition for illegal aliens invaders, “don’t have a heart”, he lost me forever.
