President Obama today unveiled a sweeping plan to give states the flexibility they have been clamoring for under the federal No Child Left Behind (NCLB) education law.

The goals behind No Child Left Behind were admirable ... but experience has taught us that in its implementation, [it] had some serious flaws that are hurting our children,” the president said in a White House speech, flanked by students, principals, state education leaders, and Secretary of Education Arne Duncan.

At first glance, I do like this idea, although the timing is suspect. Does anybody know what's up with all the waiving/waving this socialist is doing herelately? Here yet AGAIN:

Look at all those minorities smiling

Kids can’t pass the national tests? Get a waiver

Schools year after year can’t produce kids that can pass a test with national standards? get a waiver

NCLB has been a godsend to our local title one elementary school, the scores and grades and enthusiasm for learning climbed every year

Now, if it’s too tough or too expensive to add resources to help the low end and high risk kids - get a waiver

I’d ask why not just repeal the bill except the answer is obvious: there would be no “waivers” to hand out to favored cronies.

There are some laws I don’t want to obey- Can I get a ‘waiver’ for those too?

That pesky 65 MPH law is a bummer

Why is the even being allowed? The president does not have the authority to not enforce (i.e. waive) a duly passed law.

The POTUS might now have the power, but a Kenyan communist may.

THAT concept is now officially dead.

yes, some of them can be left behind because life’s lottery just didnt select them to meet the same standards as smart industrious pale skinned people

But hey- your kids can go on ahead and work and succeed, build up some wealth and then share it - by govt fiat

No. It means all the children pass even if they haven’t learnt a thing and all the unionized teachers get a raize. So everybodies happy, right?

Help me to understand how a President can make allowances to groups of people to circumvent the laws that were duly passed by Congress. Is this not a violation of separation of powers in the Constitution? It is clear that Congress is the Legislative branch that makes the laws. Could this act by President Obama be considered a high crime or misdemeanor?

It is a payback to the unions who knows the jobs of non-performing teachers and principals are at risk. Always, we must pay high to public employees, have tenure, pensions, Cadillac health plans etc. but never require them to meet quantifiable metrics. Unbelievable...
