Shock : Herman Cain wins GOP Florida straw poll

ORLANDO — Former Godfather Pizza CEO Herman Cain won the Presidency 5 straw poll here Saturday, delivering a blow to Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s frontrunner status and a victory for a candidate who has struggled to transform his grassroots popularity into strong showings in national polls.

“Tonight’s winner is Herman Cain,” Florida Gov. Rick Scott announced. “It shows you something, the road to the White House come through Florida, and it pays to spend time here.”

He received 37 percent of the more than 2,600 votes cast.

“Thank you to the Republican voters for this incredible honor of being named the winner of the Presidency 5 straw poll in Florida today,” Mr. Cain said. “This is a sign of our growing momentum and my candidacy that cannot be ignored. I will continue to share my message of ‘common-sense solutions’ across this country and look forward to spending more time in Florida, a critical state for both the nomination and the general election.”

The two national frontrunners — Mr. Perry and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney — placed second and third. Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, meanwhile, landed in fourth place; Rep. Ron Paul of Texas landed in fifth place; and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, sixth. Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann finished last. (See the poll results here.)

All forms of income just whacked seniors hoping we can have growth in the Nation as they feed the pigeons.

It is also a double-taxation on taxed income that has been invested. Get Real

What is your plan

Repeal the 16th. Go back to tariffs and excises. Need more? Use direct taxes the way they were intended. Taxation should pay for government services, not achieve social goals. The federal government is a behemoth that needs to be gutted.

n order to make 9-9-9 safe for Americans, you’d have to enact it via a Constitutional amendment which replaces the 16th Amendment—either hard-coding the 9% into the Constitution

That's true. I prefer to repeal the 16th and return to direct taxes as indicated by the constitution. If we can't tax enough, then the government is too big.

I'm glad to see Cain won this. He's come along way since he started his campaign.

The race needs shaking up.

Cain tweeted that he's raised $25K+ since the win was announced.

He was 1% behind her this week, I'd like to see him overtake Bachmann in the next Rasmussen national poll.

I answered your question. Now, with which part do you disagree?

The race needs shaking up.

Not sure if you meant it this way, but I agree.

Mr. Obama, black man with anti-American outlook, raised by commie lib parents with no real accomplishments vs. Mr. Cain, black man CEO patriot, great business sense and inspiration to all working persons.

Would this not shake up the race?

very small snapshot of GOP voters. Might hold true this time, but maybe not. This election cycle is like no other that I have seen in my lifetime. I don’t think it means much this year.

Shock the world, Herman!

My #1 and #2 picks (Santorum and Cain) got nearly 50% of the vote combined. Yes!

And what does it tell you when Santorum got nearly as many votes as Romney and Perry and is running his campaign on a shoestring? It tells you that money can't buy sincerity and clarity on the issues.

Imagine a black conservative running against a black marxist...what a face off.
But it is early yet... I would wager that neither Romney nor Perry will end up as the top two. It would not surprise me if Newt and Cain evolve..one a thinker and historian and the other a successful business man...
Then again if Sarah throws in who knows which way anything might go.

Iunderstand what you are saying. I do. I just hope Mr. Cain wins this nomination and the Presidency 2012. I have been for him since last year. I know it sucks but...Mr. Cain will make us proud and he certainly is head and shoulders above obama. Mr. Cain will not bow to foreign leaders nor will he apologize for the United States. We have nothing to apologize for in the first place. Mr. Cain is credible and when he speaks he speaks...he doesn’t just spew rhetoric. I am wishing thie man all good things. Hang in there....we’ll see how it all goes. Prayers up for Herman Cain and his family.

and remember as Mr. Cain himself says...he doesn’t have any political experience but he says something like look at all the experience in DC and how’s that working? The man is so nice to listen to and to hear how he injects humor. I think this s a President that the people of this country will truly love.
