Here we have a former Federal Reserve chairman who wants to add a national sales tax on top of the income tax, and thinks it can’t possibly go wrong.

So you would leave our current failed corrupt tax system in place because anything we replace it with might be corrupted in time.

That is a really stupid argument to be making.

Bad math andyk!

When all my payroll tax is gone, my top tax bracket drops from 35 to 9, my capital gains and dividend taxes are zero,
I can buy 3 times as much stuff as now with the 9% national sales tax included.

I see your point and it worries me a little too. But, as with most tax overhaul policies, the devil will be in the details. One thing for sure we can't go on as a first world country with our current tax system, and the threats of tax rates expiring every year or so unless congress acts. We need some transparent stable tax code and maybe Cain's plan is a good start. He's the only one who's talking about a serious overhaul (well besides Rue Paul and that man is scary).

That is the one thing that scares me about his plan. The 9-9-9 rates would have to be written into a constitutional amendment....
