Perry: Mistake by rivals to skip Fla. test vote

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Working to shake the perception of a stumbling campaign, Texas Gov. Rick Perry told GOP activists Saturday that his 2012 presidential rivals made a mistake by skipping an early test vote that he hopes will calm jitters about his bid.

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota both left Florida before the voting began...

((snip))

Ahead of the test vote, Perry's campaign bought breakfast for hundreds of the party faithful assembled for a three-day conference and debate.

The Florida straw poll does not work like the others. Delegates are selected by the local REC’s from what I am told so it could be considerd something far different from the one in Iowa in that people were recruited by the separate campaigns to attend.

I have studied Perry's record extensively and have concluded he is not for real. The man is a fraud and he is anything but a conservative.

I know he has followers here at FR but many have said they just want anyone who can defeat Obama and they think Perry can. That's exactly what the democrats who voted for Kerry said in 2004 -- they just wanted someone who could defeat Bush and they thought Kerry was that man. Of course, that didn't turn out the way they had hoped and I firmly believe that if Perry is the Republican nominee we will see the same results, that being an unpopular president getting reelected simply because his challenger was weak.

I have a heart. I don’t have a smirk. Sorry. Like I said, days ago, I image Perry is wishing that he could take his toys and go home! This has to be humiliating for him since he has a confident side. Not only for him, but for Romney. Just the other night, the beltway repubs were popping champagne since Mitt did so well (thanks to Perry not taking issues to him, Perry’s stances, his smirk, defensive counter remarks.. add that heartless remark)

It is so nice to see that the grassroots work is paying off. It is so nice to know people can see who is telling them the truth and or pretending to be a constitutional conservative.

It still amazes me that people in the media on our side encouraged Perry to enter. Some of the women on Foxnews go on and on about his hair, and they argue about men being sexist. Sorry, I had to get that side shot out.

I do think that the insiders want Mitt since he’s next in line and a safe candidate they think. You know they must be ticked off/upset with the (hick, their word) Florida republicans and voters like me. They are not about to allow the raft on the lies/corruption which is embedded in our government. They don’t want a Cain, Palin or even Newt. I like Cain. He did well in the debates.

Cain looks more solid after his debate performance. I see why they like him. He seems honest, has a good resume, great leadership experience and no baggage-they can call him a uncle tom though, we know better. I think this will be a hard battle. I still think Obama could be challenged. The extreme left of the democratic party want power. There will be so many twists and turns yet to come. My dream is that we get a candidate who will focus on these serious issues not drama with the media.

I hardly think that less than 3,000 people in the entire state of Florida will pick the next GOP nominee.

He is saying that the other candidates should have taken Florida more seriously if they are interested in the Presidency.

It is a comment made to remind Floridians who cared enough to participate in their event, and who couldn’t be bothered.

It certainly has nothing to do with the OUTCOME of the vote — it would be stupid to even think that.

On the other hand, I’d be ready to claim my support for Herman Cain, because he seems cool, but if I did, I’m sure the same cast of characters would jump up and down exclaiming that Cain isn’t a real conservative because he supported TARP.

But he said that anyone who thinks of him as a TARP advocate has the wrong idea. While he supported the idea of government pumping cash into banks during the darkest days of the financial crisis, Cain says he takes great issue with how the money was doled out.

“I thought TARP was going to be an opportunity for the government to allow any bank that needed to to restructure its balance sheet,” Cain said. “But it didn’t. It only picked its friends. That’s when I turned against TARP.”

Cain says that the way TARP worked — he said it was used to “reward winners and losers” — was not what he expected. And that turned him from a friend of the program to a foe.

Actually, although I don’t agree with everything Perry believes (or anyone for that matter), I think he is feeling harnessed by national politics or his handlers.

I would be interested to see how he would do against O instead of other Republican opponents. They really, really don’t like one another.

That being said...I haven’t come to a conclusion at this point on who to support. Anyone could go completely wheels off at any time.

No one knew what all was in those bills until after the fact, really. Bachmann was one of the first to show the public the numbers of the scam in Obamacare. Truthfully, who knows what’s coming next? We the people were lied to.

Folks, we are witness to a major breakdown.

Perry is even still advancing the lie about the lady with cancer he met. Like the Internet doesn't bust frauds big time.

Call it a day, Governor.

I must say, after the build-up that some Freepers gave Rick Perry, I have been most unimpressed with him. He has not shown me anything positive since he got into the race. He comes across to me as an empty suit with an expensive haircut.

They built him up to be a Texas conservative and what I see is somebody who is more like Mike Dukakis. If this guy somehow gets elected, will he advance the conservative cause? Will his coattails bring a GOP senate and a super-majority House?

I would rather support a Tea Party conservative. I could vote for Herman Cain. Sarah Palin. Michelle Bachmann. Even Newt Gingrich. But Rick Perry? I don't think so.
