We at FR have narrowed down "true conservative" to being almost meaningless.

Used to be a true conservative was a proven record of being pro-life. A proven record of being pro- 2nd Amendment, a proven record of cutting taxes, a proven record of being pro-military.

Let me say this also, Bachman jumped on the scene too recently to act like she is the decider of "conservative". She jumped on the TEA Party bandwagon and acted like she was driving. The TEA Party originally stood for Taxed Enough Already and was going after spending and over taxation. She started a Caucus which is bogus because the Tea Party is a free flowing idea that no one gets to claim let alone form a caucus and act like some leader. The woman is at 4%! If she represents the Tea Party then it's a pretty weak organization. She of course doesn't. Romney and Perry take up about 55-60% of the voters right now with Cain, Newt and Paul taking much of the rest. She should give it a rest.

I would switch Santorum and Bachmann; but I do like your list.

I'm in the same ball field, just a little different batting order (mainly because Palin is still out in the wings). But really, I'd be happy with any of them.

Cain
Bachmann
Santorum
Palin

Same thing Rush said today, when he listed, her, Cain and Rick. All three true conservatives. If Newt did not have all the baggage you could add him. When it comes to beating obummer I have no problem with any of the four.

But there is no way in hell that I would vote for the Texas amnesty pusher, Perry.

Yeah,

Perry looks pretty bad there. But I cannot say how bright she is or is not because she doesn't do anything but say 100% perfectly pure ideological answers, whether they are in context of the question or not.

Keeping 100% of your income is the very premise behind the Fair Tax. Perhaps she's been doing some homework on consumption taxation. The question was a loaded one, designed to provide cannon fodder for the media. I thought she evaded that damage skillfully if not eloquently.

The problem with our government is not how we collect our taxes. It is that we are taxed too much. How much is too much? I don't know. Maybe we could cut federal spending by 1/3 and cut taxes by 10%. However, Michelle Bachmann believes that there should be no taxes collected whatsoever. She said so in the debate, and she is an idiot.

Did you hear that she has raised 5 biologican children and 26 foster children? She manages to get that line in every time she gets in fromt of a camera. I ‘m getting sick of it.

GOP nominee must be much more specific than just bumper sticker slogans.

Well said.

You make some valid points especially the first half of your post. I just love Bachmann because she is so passionate at getting rid of Obamacare. She has scared me a bit with her saying that if Obamacare is not gone in 2013, we are stuck with it for life. Apparently a big chunk of Obamacare goes on line in 2014. That is scary and that is why I give her more rope than others. I don’t see the urgency of getting rid of Obamacare from the others. I do hear chit chat about it from the others but not the passion.

She’s a conservative, just not the right conservative. I have qualms about her lack of experience. She was an IRS lawyer and a Representative. No executive experience at all. Look where that has gotten us, granted in a Marxist package, but still...

Herman Cain is the right conservative with the right experience. His background and skill in turning around failing companies will help us turn around this failing country.

Conservative, to be sure. But also with the common sense not to take an unscientific anecdote about an HPV vaccine’s causing mental retardation and turn it into a presidential campaign issue.

My order of candidates.

Palin
Cain

Santorum

Bachmann

And that is it. If one of those four patriotic conservative Americans are not our candidate then I am writing in Palin.

For me, I would add Gingrich to that list if he fully repents of that global warming nonsense he did with Pelosi.

However, Michelle Bachmann believes that there should be no taxes collected whatsoever. She said so in the debate, and she is an idiot.

She did not say that no taxes should be collected whatsoever. She said :
And after the debate, I talked to that young man, and I said I wish I could have answered that question, because I want to tell you what my answer is: I think you earned every dollar. You should get to keep every dollar that you earn. That's your money; that's not the government's money.

You may choose to believe it or not, but in a consumption tax scenario that is exactly what happens. You keep every dollar you earn. You agree to employment at a given wage or salary and your paycheck reflects that given wage or salary each and every pay period untaxed. It is only when you spend your money that your purchases are taxed. She spoke specifically about keeping earnings; she made no mention of doing away with all taxation. If you didn't get that, it's okay. But that doesn't make her answer wrong. It only means she failed to reach you communicatively and needs to try a different route. Michele Bachmann is no idiot. She is one of the few genuine representatives of We the People that exist in Congress. One of the very few that had courage enough to hold the line during the Boehner Bill Debacle. I admire her greatly, and for good reason.

I agree with Rush. Newt would be such an asset in the cabinet or as an advisor, though. He knows more than all the others have forgotten about procedure and policy. He’s just...like you said....has too much personal baggage to become president.
