A Representative Republic? That's So Last Century
It really doesn't get any more clear than this, does it?
As a way to solve the national debt crisis, North Carolina Democratic Gov. Beverly Perdue recommends suspending congressional elections for the next couple of years.
“I think we ought to suspend, perhaps, elections for Congress for two years and just tell them we won’t hold it against them, whatever decisions they make, to just let them help this country recover,” Perdue said at a rotary club event in Cary, North Carolina, according to the Raleigh News & Observer. “I really hope that someone can agree with me on that.”
Let me simply observe that such a "proposal", if said other than in jest, is an open declaration by an elected official to literally seize power and refuse to cede either office or power to the will of the people.
Should such an act be contemplated, say much less recommended or acted upon, we no longer live in a Representative Republic and the remedies called for in The Declaration of Independence are the only ones remaining for any and all who intend to be a free people living in a nation that operates on the principles of a Representative Republic.
Oh, you don't think that's all, do you? Why no!
"So what to do? To solve the serious problems facing our country, we need to minimize the harm from legislative inertia by relying more on automatic policies and depoliticized commissions for certain policy decisions. In other words, radical as it sounds, we need to counter the gridlock of our political institutions by making them a bit less democratic." - Peter Orszag
Who is Peter Orszag? Vice Chairman of Global Banking at Citigroup, Bloomberg "view" columnist, an adjunct senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations and....... most importantly.... The former director of the Office of Management and Budget for President Obama.
What time is it again?
This borders on Treason, IMO.
Hey lib lady, you want CW II now?
Bring it on, baby.
Impeach Bev now. I know this would fly in NC.
This suggestion was made because the country as a whole is displaying a swing to the right, toward conservatism. After the 2010 elections, Obama’s floundering popularity and backlash against the democrats is resulting in these kind of ideas being touted.
You can bet if the country was openly displaying liberal values they would NEVER suggest this kind of garbage.
The logical result of such a crackpot, extreme view by the Governor of NC contravening our Constitution is shown by history: when the Bolsheviks seized power in 1917 in Russia they actually made good on their pledge to hold a parliamentary election. When the results showed that they lost badly, the Bolsheviks ignored the results and cancelled any further “free” elections as unnecessary and an impediment to the “progress” they intended to make for the Russian people.
They will start to tell us that the economy and the partisan ship is so severe, that the average voter, does not possess the 'Clarity of thought" to make a conscientious decision.
Which roughly translates to " your too stupid to vote", we will continue and work together without the pressure of elections to make your life easier.
Honestly, the number of people who would willingly accept this, is probably pretty high. That is the scary part.
Every time she opens her mouth she proves that she is an idiot.
So very true!
This is simply liberal frustration because they can’t impose their will upon us, and cram their agenda down our throats(or up our asses)!
A Liberal is a Socialist is a Communist.
typeless.....
That’s so last before the last century.
I sometimes wonder if we’d just be better off in the long term by just letting the Leftists have their way. Sure the country would be nearly, if not totally destroyed, and there would be great pain. However, doing so would show everyone what kind of bankrupt ideology they have, being on display for what it is. It would drive them into political exile.
Right now our country is well on the way to hell in a hand basket, by us just having a taste of what they have in store, as a result of the dems having the super-majority Congress and the presidency for a couple of years. Of course though, the foundations were eroding over the years well before then, and it took them to send us to the Event Horizon.
You are right. What are the odds of her getting impeached.
And to think Jesse Helms was from North Carolina. How did these people vote for this idiot
It wasn’t a joke at all. It was a trial balloon. To be sure, it was a very stupid trial balloon but don’t think that a whole lot of people are not very interested in how much sympathy the idea got. Not much, as it turns out. I do believe the Guv’s career just took a permanent downturn.
Unfortunately, NC is a much different state than it was back then. Too many liberal outsiders have infested what was the already liberal 'research triangle' area of the state.
We have a similar scenario here in VA with Northern VA being our growing liberal area that offsets the rest of the state that's generally conservative. It's very frustrating to see on election day(s). Always funny how it works out during close elections... The entire state will narrowly go for the conservative, and those heavily liberal precincts will go late into the night before reporting their results. As soon as they see how many votes they need to put the liberal over the top, they'll finally report their "votes". George Allen's loss in 2006 was a text book example of this.
