af, you just don’t like the Governor.

I do like his pro-life, pro-marriage and family conservatism. I appreciate that he comes to pro-life rallies (and was always disappointed that Bush didn’t).

I agree with him on a lot more, and have disagreed with him on some issues. He won me over with his understanding of pro-life issues. It amazed me the first time I heard him talk about embryonic stem cells - he understood what he was saying. He wasn’t just spouting words, he understood the terms.

How can you explain campaigning hard for Rudy Giuliani if he is such a big pro-lifer? If you are serious about being pro-life, how can you support a scumbag like Giuliani for President who, if elected, could nominate justices to the Supreme Court that could influence future cases related to abortion? And don't try to say "well Giuliani dropped out so it doesn't matter" because that's not the point, the point is that Perry campaigned for him in the first place. It's just like when people say no harm, no foul when it comes to the Trans-Texas Corridor. The point is not that he was rebuffed, the point is that he tried it in the first place.

We should not have have to force a candidate to be conservative in the first place, and yet we've had to do that time and again with Perry. We shouldn't have to treat him like he's a fox slinking around the chicken coop. We should be able to trust Rick Perry not to do something that is going to cause us to have to work against him, whether it was the vaccine he tried to get added to the vaccine list for his good buddy who worked for Merck, whether it was the TTC that benefited any number of Perry friends, including Rudy Giuliani, and so on.

Are we that hard up that we have to accept somebody like Perry and try to make excuses for all of the crappy stances and projects he's supported? I don't believe we are.
