The satirical newspaper The Onion may have gone a little too far with their reporting this morning, causing the Capitol Hill police to get involved.
The first tweet, with a hashtag of #CongressHostage, sent out at 10:33 a.m. said, BREAKING: Witnesses reporting screams and gunfire heard inside Capitol building.
That was followed by a second, more disturbing tweet at 10:44 a.m.: BREAKING: Capitol building being evacuated. 12 children held hostage by group of armed congressmen. #CongressHostage
It wasnt a case of hacking. It was done on purpose.
Its just the Onions usual satire, youll see it unfold, said Anne Finn, a spokeswoman for The Onion, who also apologized for any confusion.
The magazine also posted a story on its website, explaining in greater detail that during the fake hostage situation, House Speaker John Boehner told FBI negotiators that Congress needed $12 trillion.

How is that satire?
Sounds more like liberal wishful thinking.
and thus, Twitter has it’s Orson Welles moment...
Naw. This incident is just further proof that we are led by morons. I can't think of a single government entity that has rational adults in charge.
Fox News swallowed it last year - believing a report from the Onion was true.
Something like screaming fire in a crowded movie theater comes to mind.
Alright, seriously, the Onion parodies about everyone and everything. It appears that some people have issues with the fact that the tent of people who get parodied or poked fun of by this publication is quite large.
Frankly, I am surprised they didn’t panick after seeing this scene from the Onion Movie

How is this any different from any of ABC’s news programs?
Did the Obama photo op-the low flying plane over NYC get ANY negative press?? Why didn’t Bloomberg shoot it down?? Why were no military planes scrambled?
Slow news day, huh...
It’s not as if there were any Mooninites involved or anything...
I think it's hysterical.
Hilarious bump!
