Earlier today, The Washington Post reported on a hunting camp connected to presidential candidate Rick Perry bearing in its title a racial slur. On This Week earlier, fellow candidate Herman Cain reacted negatively to the news, criticizing Perry for going there so frequently.
Christiane Amanpour reviewed the details of the camp with Cain, and while pointing out that the word in question may have been painted out, she asked the African-American candidate his take on the story. Cain wasted no time in sharing his candid thoughts on the matter:
That is very insensitive. There are some words that do not basically inspire the kind of negativity like that particular word. And I know that youve refrained from saying that word, so Im going to say what the word was on the rock. The name of the place was called Niggerhead. That is very insensitive. And since Governor Perry has been going there for years to hunt, I think that shows a lack of sensitivity for a long time of not taking that word off of that rock and rename the place. Its just a basic case of insensitivity.

Where did you get that the Perry family painted N....Head on the rock? Talk about spreading lies!
Are you seriously making the claim that Perry and his family put that on the rock?
Are YOU saying they painted the word Niggerhead on the rock?
Black-Eyed Susan Flowers Are Known by Several Names:
Black-Eyed Susan;
Yellow or Ox-Eye Daisy;
Nigger-head;
Golden Jerusalem;
Purple Cone-flower
Their botanical name is Rudbeckia hirta.
Cain’s race-baiters have made their way to Freerepublic.
The thing is the way the question was thrown out, none of this was known. Hell, I grew up and hung around that part of the State and never heard of this rock, we can't expect Cain to magically know this on the fly.
I think that’s true, and Mr. Cain has got a nice run-up to his book tour out of it. Mitt’s deep pockets and hardball staffers have been planning for him to run as a moderate and see the conservative vote spread among more candidates for some time now.
But I also agree with him that it was insensitive of the Perrys to simply paint over the rock and leave it so others could read it as they visited the camp for decades. (And if the charity that owned the camp would not have approved that, they should not have been renting from that charity.)
A member of Perry’s family painted it on the rock? (I’m just now hearing of ALL of this). I agree that Cain didn’t play the race card. He’s right, it is insensitive. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure that out, and simply pointing out that it’s insensitive doesn’t make Cain one who “plays the race card” either. It’s very disingenuous to claim it does as well.
It’s bad enough when we have to argue against liberals who accuse us of being racist, but to hear conservatives say that merely pointing out one’s personal feelings on a matter of etiquette and respect make someone racist themselves is disturbing on a whole different level... We’re better than this people - seriously.
He answered the question by saying that Perry left the rock there with the name on it.
Its probably insulting a lot of jew janitors as well.
Perry better change the name of Nigton, Texas, too.

The only race baiter in this incident was the interviewer trying to grab a gotcha moment.
Can you read?
The word I used was condoning, look it up, the game warden said you could read the name up until three years ago, when the rock was turned over are moved/ I think that was after someone else took over the lease.
The poster knows better, yet keeps spouting nonsense on multiple threads because he hates Perry enough to overlook another candidate playing the race card.
Cain seriously, seriously hurt himself this morning. What made him refreshing was that he was a conservative black man who didn't push the typical racial line of attack. This morning we find out that when Cain thinks it will benefit him, he won't hesitate to play race hustler to gain political advantage. That puts him right in league with the likes of Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. There is absolutely no excuse for it.
Tried to make the same point but the thread has been pulled?
The Reverand Cain needs to go apply for a job with Jessie Jacksons shake down crew.
Cain just lost my support.
I think this story has gotten confused by re-telling.
The word on the rock was “Wolf!”.
