Perry camp pushes back against report of racial epithet at rental hunting site (NOT owned by Perry)
msnbc ^ | 10/2/2011 | Carrie Dann

Gov. Rick Perry's team pushed back Sunday on a Washington Post story charging that a racial epithet was displayed for decades on a hunting property leased by the Texas governor's family.

Perry's team says that the governor's father Ray painted over the name -- a holdover from the area's long cowboy culture -- in the early 1980s. That conflicts with the account of a total of seven sources -- who spoke on the condition of anonymity -- who told the Post that the offensive name of the hunting grounds was written on a flat slab of rock at the entrance to the property and was visible during the 1980s and 1990s when Perry launched his political career. One source said the word could be seen as late as 2008.

In a response to First Read, Perry Communications Director Ray Sullivan disputed the accuracy of those accounts.

"The rock was obscured in 1983 or 1984 and remained so," he said. "Named interviewees in the story corroborate that. The story has no named sources seeing the name on the rock in later 80s and 90s claim and those unnamed sources contradict one another."

Here is the interview where Cain used the race card. It starts about 3:45 into the video and runs through about 4:15. Note that Cain refers to the Washington Post article as though he has read it. That article includes
Rick Perry’s description of when his father painted over the offensive words, Cain knew.

http://video.foxnews.com/

Here is the link to the Washington Pst article which makes it clear how Rick Perry responded to this issue:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/national/rick-perry-familys-hunting-camp-still-known-to-many-by-old-racially-charged-name/2011/10/01/gIQAOhY5DL_story.html

Cain had a clear opportunity to say he wanted to find out more about the allegations before painting Perry as he did in the interview.

Cain was not put into a corner, he was just asked what he thought about the article.

If Perry were a Racist, he would not be such a strong advocate for giving In State Tuition to Illegal Aliens.

From the article:

"Perry’s father painted over offensive language on a rock soon after leasing the 1,000-acre parcel in the early 1980s. When Governor Perry was party to the hunting lease from 1997 to 2007, the property was described as northern pasture. He has not been to the property since 2006. In 1991 the Texas Legislature passed a bill to rename old, offensive place names."

Apologize for using the race card, Mr. Cain and move on.

Disappointed AND surprised? His contuinuing support of TARP, his support of Romney, his warning that his tax plan is revenue neutral, his refusal to support auditing of the Fed, etc. all provided reasons NOT to surprised. He’s a typical politiician in so many ways.

I’m confused, so Rick Perry had NOTHING whatsoever to do with the offensive name. And Perry’s DAD painted over it anyway, 30 years ago? I know the MSM is pathetic, but this is really sad.

People should not believe anything in the media about this; like Perry or not.
99% of these stories end up much differently in the end; than what they try to feed people upfront.
It sounds like a quick hit character assassination piece.
Get the hit/slur out there; do the damage early.
Never matters what the truth is. They get the damage done early. Those with short attention spans and limited intelligence (swing voters) will suck it in.

Saying a word is insensitive is not using the race card, but, you perrywinkles are playing the race card to the full extent possible. Tomorrow, Rush will ask Bo if he thinks the racial slur on the rock was insensitive, he will say yes, and you perrywinkles will then attack Bo and Rush for playing the race card.

I suggest that you listen to the interview. Cain did not just say that the word was insensitive.

I don’t care for Perry but this is nothing more than a hit piece and the MSM used Cain to jump in on the action.

“You malcontents have been posting that BS all day.”

What BS did I post?

Is it BS that Rick Perry is not a racist?

Or

Is it BS that Rick Perry signed legislation which grants in state tuition to illegal aliens?

Politico, WashPost, whoever it was, light the fire. Wallace and Amanpour where the messengers stoking the fire.
Cain should have given no credence whatsoever to the stroy without first checking its validiity.

His 999 plan (why pick 999 - a figure that is SOO sensitive to so many) has always been a negative with me. Any one who advocates an income AND a consumption tax is on a different wave length from me.

I had a racist uncle. There are probably people who would sign an affidavit stating I laughed at one of his racist jokes once. No career in politics for me.
