Sarah Palin: Is her caribou cooked already?
Investor's Business Daily ^ | 10/3/2011 | Andrew Malcolm

Eleven days before Michigan's candidate registration deadline. And we still don't know if former Gov. Sarah Palin is going, as she puts it, to toss her name into the hat.

Here's Palin's problem: We don't know. She likes it that way. It's late by contemporary announcement standards. And many of us, even those fascinated by her refreshing rogueness, have stopped caring. Certainly her would-be Republican opponents have moved on, as they should.

So, does it even matter now if SP drives her beautiful bus straight through the gates of tradition into a rogue race?

I love irony. The person who complains about Sarah’s incomplete term has trouble completing 2 out of three sentences in their post! Gotta love it!

It’s incomprehensible why she’d pick a time like this to head into the wilderness — the “unshackled maverick” gambit is very risky, and the default outcome is irrelevance and oblivion.
But that appears to be the case.
She will have made Mitt Romney the sure thing.

A few comments. Regarding Utah, even if it is the 15th of this month, I don’t think that matters in the abstract. No one can compete against Romney in Utah, not even Huntsman. So if that deadline were “missed” it is of no consequence.

With regards to that MI law excerpt, it seems like IBD just pulled their Oct 15 out of thin air. And if the excerpt you posted is truly the law, which would hardly be unsurprising, the fact that the candidates are those identified by the “national news media” is silly beyond belief. Ah, the eternal wisdom of state legislators! That is really a very strange way to have on qualify for a presidential primary ballot!

It is playing with fire for all the conservatives to be attacking each other while ignoring Romney.

Any and all liberals like Romney should be destroyed first, then and only then should the remaining real conservatives start going after each other. Imagine if instead of attacking Perry these last few weeks, everyone had instead attacked Romney and driven him down into the single digits. Everyone that had successfully attacked Romney would of gotten a bump. Instead they attacked a fellow conservative and drove his numbers down... along with theirs. If people like Santorum and Bachmann want to bring their numbers up they need to stop attacking the other conservatives, and start attacking the real enemies on the stage like Romney and Huntsman.

I agree, she is going to enter the race, the media will go insane, Cains’s message will be drowned out, Sarah does not have a chance to win anything other than the base, but Cain can reach more, and thus, Romney wins, Sarah will become hated amoung the conservative movement. That is my prediction, and no, I do not hate Sarah, but she is already screwing up our chances.

If Gov. Palin is such a great fighter she wouldn’t have quit without finishing her term as Governor.

The ethics suits cost the State of Alaska $2 Mil and brought government almost to a halt because they had to search for documents to fight them. So she should have stayed and tied up the state?

Never give power to a person who will not relinquish it for the good of the people.

-- ... it seems like IBD just pulled their Oct 15 out of thin air. --

There is likely a MI law that has an Oct 15 deadline, or some other reference that the author incorrectly took to be controlling.

-- the fact that the candidates are those identified by the "national news media" is silly beyond belief. --

I had the same reaction. Seems there is a two step process though, with the deadline for the parties being a week after that "take it from the news reports" deadline to the MI Secretary of State.

the election set exactly 400 days from today.

400 - 15 (385 days). Isn't that long enough for an election all ready? What's the point of making it longer?

Sarah Palin’s potential need not be exclusive to the presidency. If she won’t run for that, maybe she’d make a good cabinet member for somebody else.

You mean like you Perrybots running around attacking Herman Cain?

Not only is that corrupt bag of slime candidate of yours not a conservative, but you have the nerve to be completely shameless in your hypocrisy as well. Congratulations.

"The only counter to that would be if she turned it around and focused on these scandals like the others have been afraid to."

This seems like her M.O. - take it all to Zero, not other Republican candidates....her gripe is with Obama.

"she won't lay out her strategy."

Well, no. I think her strategy is pretty clear: the only way she can get the kind of attention she now gets---and hammer the Dems and Obama---is to be a "candidate." Once she no longer has that label, the news media will cover the real candidates and whatever she has to say will be minimized, if not ignored. (How many news stories do you hear about Huckabee or Trump recently?)

She has no organization in any of the primary states that I am aware of. To build an organization takes months, not days, no matter how fanatical the support. So I have said for months now she's not in, and there is no evidence on the ground in the early primary states of her having a real organization.

LOL. This is hilarious.

How many times has Krisp Krispy said he's NOT going to run for President and still nobody knows whether or not he's going to run for President.

Why would it be any different for Sarah Palin? Even is she said she's not going to run, the media and Palin Haters would be out there demanding she make a decision.

You people need to get a grip.

And, perhaps, a life.

Not necessarily in that order.

If Gov. Palin is such a great fighter she wouldn’t have quit without finishing her term as Governor. she is the Republican nominee, I will fight tooth and nail to get her elected. I won’t vote for her if she gets in the primaries, but if

Funny how that works. Your point is exactly why I won't support the GOP unless it is a real conservative.

Sarah Palin was in Alaska, enjoying an 88% approval rating, when the GOP rightfully realized they needed her help to get the base out to vote. After coming down to the lower 48 and campaigning for McCain for months. She continually drew larger crowds than the top of the ticket. Maybe that's what ticked em off. She goes back to what once was a nice life and instead she gets silly lawsuit, after silly lawsuit filed against her. How much was she earning at her position? Maybe 150k but now is in debt for half a million. And why? Because she helped out McCain and the GOP.

I would think at this point, decent people would actually try to help her out, after all her help to them. But, here's what they did. Anonymous McCain staffers tried to smear her. McCain himself went on Leno and mocked her.

Now, the GOP wants to say “Gee, I wonder why she quit”. What a bunch of jerks.

Weird that someone would write an article about something that he knows his audience does not care about but it's weirder still to write an article about something he doesn't even care about.

But then, Palin Haters are weird.

I would prefer that everyone focused on destroying Romney.

But I will not let everyone else destroy the ONE person that is trying to destroy Romney.

As long as the other candidates continue to attack Perry and not Romney, then I am forced to attack them. As soon as they stop attacking Perry and start attacking the real threat Romney, then I will start cheering for them.
