“The coal trucks weigh 90,000 pounds and will pulverize less robust roads”

Anyone ever see a coal truck? I’ve noticed power companies have a habit of building rail lines to their plants.

In 2004, 12% of utilty coal in the US was delivered by truck, 64% by rail.

But even so, roads are maintained by fuel taxes and railroads are maintained by private owners. In Indiana, coal trucks are limited by law to 80,000# gross weight, while grain trucks are allowed 88,000# on state roads. Maybe we should not only outlaw coal, but agriculture as well. Then nobody would have to work for a living.

That's my thought exactly. I drive I64 straight through WV quite a bit, have NEVER seen a coal truck. Have seen lots of coal trains and barges.

But RFK's comments aren't anything out of the ordinary for him. He's perpetually full of horses**t. A few years back he was talking up how DC would never have another Winter snowfall like he experienced growing up at Hickory Hill. Then we get blasted with three major snowstorms (Snowmageddon, Snowpocolypse) within a month and a half.

But so long as the true-believers continue believing him just because he's a Kennedy, and keep sending the $$$ in, he'll do just fine.
