Herman Cain on Killing Awlaki and the 9-9-9 Plan
Weekly Standard ^ | John McCormack

Posted on 10/04/2011 9:39:18 PM PDT by Def Conservative

Herman Cain continues to surge in the Republican presidential primary. A new national Washington Post/ABC poll shows Cain tied for second place with Texas governor Rick Perry, and Public Policy Polling finds Cain leading in North Carolina, Nebraska, and West Virginia. Herman Cain

But with greater success, Cain is also facing greater scrutiny. During a brief phone interview this afternoon with THE WEEKLY STANDARD, Cain responded to questions that have been raised about his positions on the war on terror and taxes.

Asked why he had backed off his opposition to the U.S. military's targeting Anwar Awlaki, the al Qaeda terrorist and American citizen who was killed Friday by a drone strike in Yemen, Cain denied that he had ever opposed taking out Awlaki.

“I never said that [President Obama] should not have ordered [the killing]. I don’t recall saying that. I think you’ve got some misinformation," Cain said. "Keep in mind that there are a lot of people out there trying to make me sound as if I am indecisive."

“I don’t know all of the compelling evidence that the intelligence agencies and the military had. I’m convinced—I’m convinced that they have enough intelligence information that said he’s a threat to the United States of America,” Cain said. “You don’t try to prosecute or capture him simply because he’s a United States citizen.”

But in May, Cain was asked: "Do you think it's legal to issue a shoot-to-kill order in [Awlaki's] case?"

"In his case, no, because he's an American citizen," Cain replied. "If he's an American citizen, which is the big difference, then he should be charged, and he should be arrested and brought to justice." Cain reiterated his opposition to killing Awlaki in an interview weeks later.

I wish candidates who have dramatic new tax plans would stop trying to claim that everyone wins with them. There is no way to make the drastic changes necessary to our tax system without someone having to pay more in taxes.

There are so many people livin' off the loopholes in any complicated system that it is a fool's errand to try and craft a plan that doesn't hit some of them.

I like Cain and if he continues to surge he can expect the Perry treatment by the MSM. Will see how he handles it because the MSM and GOP elite seem hellbent on making Romney the guy.

Outside of FR and other conservative formats it’s fair to say Romney has not been vetted by the MSM. They want to nominate him and then they will savage him.

I think Herman wants to see Romney as the nominee also.

I dunno, lately on FR it's been savage the not-Romney.

Will see how he handles it

Yep, from the article:

But with greater success, Cain is also facing greater scrutiny.

I don't think Cain will last long under scrutiny. Then it's on to the next not-Romney.

This is making it way too easy for Mitt.

An individual whose declared intentions are the downfall of the United States has forfeited whatever legal protections he might assume under the authority of the same. I don't care if it's Zero, or Cain, or any other Federal authority who pulls the trigger: Citizenship by definition entails fidelity to ones country, along with it's ideals as stated from the get go.

Certain “citizens” in our midst pretend to be our friend, but manifestly seek our downfall. Citizenship is not just a matter of birth, but of confession and ideas as they are in accord with our founding principles. Those not in agreement should be expelled. Those who live in our midst as proponents of our downfall, if they chose not to leave of their own accord, ought to be imprisoned.

If they resist, then forcefully expel. If they raise up violence to advance other notions, then kill (wihtout passion) so that we may live in the peace we, and our neighbors, should enjoy. It's as simple as that.

What? Will Herman tell us who these horrible people are?

Nein Nein Nein

With Cain we get an income tax AND a sales tax.

And now he can’t figure out whether we should kill a terrorist just because he was born here.
and
He thinks that it is bad to boo someone because he is a homosexual. Let alone call it an abomination as God does.

It simply means Cain lacks political “no-speak”.
When asked if you would kill Awlaki, a seasoned politician would answer “We have to be extremely careful since Awlaki is a US citizen but all depends on the intelligence available, his connection with Al Qaeda or other terrorists, and what exactly Awlaki is planning to do”. That covers all bases.

But the economic situation in this country is resting on the edge of a cliff. It desperately needs a leader with tons of common sense, business acumen and some one who can think out of the box. Another politician will finish us off permanently to a banana republic status.

You forgot that we eliminate payroll tax, the highest tax paid by 50% of population.

You forgot we eliminate death tax. Your kids will benefit.

You forgot we eliminate tax on capital gains and dividends. Your 401-k will be happy, and seniors will be happy.

You forgot the top tax rate drops to 9% from 35%. All people who work hard will be happy.

You tell me, cause I don’t know of one Republican who will stand by what the Bible says about homosexuals, yet they go to Church every Sunday.

You know, either homosexuality is okay or it is bad. And if we are not going to speak out against it, then why spend some much time fighting over whether homosexuals get married or serve openly in the military.

But I can’t list one GOP candidate who will speak out against homosexuality. Even Limbaugh won’t. I wish there where one.

That 9 9 9 will then grow to 12 12 12 then 20 20 20 so on and so forth.

Lets Remember From 1870 to 1872 the rate was a flat 2.5 percent.

Cain doesn’t say his 999 will balance the budget. Does he?

He thinks that it is bad to boo someone because he is a homosexual. Let alone call it an abomination as God does.

Cain, whom one poll last week showed in third place in the GOP presidential race after his victory in a Florida straw poll, said that it was "not the intent of anybody on that stage" to disrespect the soldier who questioned the candidates. "I happen to think that maybe they were booing the whole "Don't ask, Don't tell" repeal more so than booing that soldier. But we didn't know that," said Cain. Cain did admit the moment could have been handled differently by the GOP candidates, saying "in retrospect because of the controversy and the different ways it was interrupted," he would have responded to the booing.

He said the GOP candidates (all of them) could have handled it better. No one said anything about the booing including the candidate to whom the question was asked. Cain is clearly against queers, their same sex marriages and agenda

My pastor had a reply ready to those in his congregation who asked him his position on the same-sex marriage issue:"What part of the Bible do you want to throw out?" If you believe in the Bible, then the issue is a moot point. We cannot separate this "civil rights issue," as the Democrats call it, from the moral issue. There is a tendency among liberals to lower a moral standard to accommodate a civil behavior. The difference between the civil rights struggle and the so-called gay struggle is that the civil rights struggle constantly moved this nation upward to live up to the ideal that "All men are created equal, endowed by their Creator." The gay rights struggle involves altering the established moral principle of marriage as the union between one man and one woman. Name the legislation or regulation that can't be changed by a future congress.
That's not an argument against Cain's plan or anybody's.

999 will spur growth. Growth means revenues. He also plans to restructure departments, like the EPA, for better efficiency. Seems to me growth + cuts = balance.

999 can be locked in legislatively, perhaps through a Balanced Budget Amendment requiring 2/3rds majorities to raise taxes.

If we accept this stupid plan, we will have a VAT tax FOR EVER. Coming from France I can tell you what a nightmare it is - papers to fill in all the time and more. But mainly, it is now 24%. If we accept that plan and a VAT tax, which is what it is (PLUS the other taxes in his plan) we can start how low you want, it WILL end up at 20% or more and will NEVER disappear once installed. Mark my word. This the most dangerous way of taxation I know and I know what I am talking about.
