What baffles me is why did the establishment want Christie to run if Romney was going to win the nomination. Two points give me hope: Romney didn’t win in 2008 before the rise of the TEA Party movement, and he seems to be at his ceiling in the polls. The battle appears to be among the not-Romney contenders.

In 2008 Romney couldn't beat McCain and even Huckabee came out ahead of Willard by a few delegate votes. I think the GOP establishment knows deep down, Romney can't beat Obama. They thought Christie could. Now it'll be Romney with his 35% ceiling of moderate-liberal GOP voters, versus Perry, Cain and may be Bachmann dividing the GOP's conservative vote. Do the math.
