From the leftist point of view, they believe they’ll have the leftist government at their back if the right ever decides to push back.
From the ruling class point of view, they’re looking for just such an excuse to use the power of the state to eliminate their political enemies. They’ll agitate and push these rabble until the right fights back, then they’ll step in to “quell the violence”.
