Occupy Wall Street costing taxpayers $2 million in police overtime – and counting – NYPD says

The NYPD said Thursday that three weeks of anti-Wall Street demonstrations have cost the city $2 million in police overtime and defended the use of pepper spray and batons to control rowdy crowds.

"I think the vast majority of people who protest were peaceful," said Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly.

"But there's clearly a core group of self-styled anarchists - that's what they call themselves - who want to have a confrontation with police."

OCCUPY WALL STREET: SCENES OF PROTEST

He said that following Wednesday's 10,000-strong union march, a much smaller group tried to storm police barricades at Wall Street and Broadway.

"They locked their arms. They counted down - 10, 9, 8, 7, 6. Then they decided to charge the police. That is going to be met with some physical force," Kelly said.

If the filthy b*st*rds cleaned themselves up perhaps someone MIGHT consider hiring them. But then the pro-Communist trouble makers behind it aren't really interested in jobs. Their goal is to cause as much chaos as possible and take down the Capitalist system.

Only $2M so far? That’s astonishing. Make that outright unbelievable.

But Nancy Pelosi gets choked up over the threat of political violence from the protesters. Oh wait, she was talking about tea partiers.

Full overemployment for the police unions

Imagine the lost customer revenue it is costing for private businesses, except for pizza takeout

Bill the unions, bill every university that has sent students, bill every group who has voiced public support, bill every Hollyweirdo who has shown up or come out in favor. If they don’t pay the bill turn them over to collections, cut off future credit, stop federal education grants and loans, refuse negotiations.

I’m for making someone besides the taxpayers pay for this nonsense at least this one time. We’ve footed the bill for such ignorance far too often in the past.

I thought so, too. Maybe someone is trying to cover for the bums and minimize the damage they are doing.

Exactly. The 2 Million only refers to police OVERTIME. There obviously is a LOT more taxpayer money than that being spent over all.

If anarchists don’t believe in laws, it shouldn’t be illegal to shoot them.

Isn’t it also disgusting how the lame street liberal snooze media tries to portray them in such a positive light, as opposed to the way they report on Tea Party events. Meanwhile, these leftist SOBs are going after the police! The media here in NYC are obviously trying to pump up the movement. Not once have I heard any mention of it being a pro-communist, anti-Capitalist movement. Not a surprise, but it is beyond sickening.

They’re trying to draw tea partiers into this little anarchist/fascist tantrum which is how the nazis gained power in Germany.

They took many diverse groups (Many of whom hated the nazis) and focused rightful anger on the wrong target starting with the rich bankers. From there it was a short hop to the Jewish shop owners and then just plain Jews and anyone else who got in their way.

Police are lined up at those EEEvil banks cashing their overtime checks. LMAO.

Every cloud has a silver lining for someone.

Good for the cops. They are earning every penny dealing with these a-holes.

He can only be viewed a "failure" if one assumes (foolishly) that his intentions are to do what's right for America and our Capitalist system.

You know your right! But to the Democrates who voted for him THEY are certainly claiming he's a failure.

How did these people get a permit to wreak havoc? And if the city never issued a permit, why the heck haven’t these people been locked up? And if they did get a permit, often the group has to pay some kind of bond to cover any costs incurred. Did they pay, and who signed the check? And if a permit was indeed issued, why the heck, in light of recent events, hasn’t the permit been revoked? What the heck is Bloombug doing, just sitting there wih his thumb.....Well, you get the idea.

Austin PD was prepared for over 1000 demonstrators, but there were less than 200. One of the local news stations went there and interviewed the organizers and found out that they had no permit. But, no citations were issued.
