Just curious, why would he be OK for VP, which would make him President at any possible moment if something should happen, but not OK for President?

Not that I’m wanting Newt for either one; just wondering.

The probability of VP becoming President is remote.

VPs go to foreign funerals and they don’t have any role in decision making. They are only good for publicity (e.g. clearly articulating and defending the policies).

In some case, President really respects the VP (e.g. Bush-Cheney) so they have influence, but this has nothing to do with the role of VP itself.
