Cain Proposes Electrified Border Fence
Pravda- NY Times Division ^ | 10/15/11 | Wyatt

Posted on 10/15/2011 4:18:53 PM PDT by VinL

Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain said Saturday that part of his immigration policy would be to build an electrified fence on the country’s border with Mexico that could kill people trying to enter the country illegally...

Mr. Cain added that he also would consider using military troops “with real guns and real bullets” on the border to stop illegal immigration.

The remarks were among the most pointed yet by Mr. Cain about illegal immigration, and they come as he is enjoying a surge in national political polls on the back of his victory in a recent Florida straw poll..

It is not the first time that Mr. Cain has floated the idea of an electrified fence. He has told the story many times of a caller to his former radio show who chastised him for talking about building a border fence, saying that such an idea was impractical.

“It’s going to be 20 feet high. It’s going to have barbed wire on the top. It’s going to be electrified. And there’s going to be a sign on the other side saying, ‘It will kill you — Warning.’” At an earlier rally, on the campus of Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville, Tenn., he added that the sign would be written “in English and in Spanish.”

“This nation has always been a nation with wide open doors,” Mr. Cain said at the second rally. “We want to make it easy for people to come through the front door. And we’re going to shut off the back door so you don’t have to sneak into America.”

“Yea, and people have crucified Perry over the TTC because they said he was ok with taking Texans land away from them.”

You sound a bit contemptuous of your fellow Texans. People didn’t SAY he’s was ok with the taking of their land, people said (rightly) that HE WAS taking away their land. It took HALF A DECADE and a HUGE amount of effort by thousands and thousands of people to stop him.

The plan itself was bad enough (taking 500,000 acres from Texans and essentially handing them over to well-connected private companies)...but his REFUSAL to back down from it until it was about to cost him re-election in 2010 was HORRENDOUS.

“Perry’s strategy is EXACTLY the strategy used by Israel along it’s southern border. See Post 119.”

One difference, Israel doesn’t have a history of coddling its enemies.

It works now.

But did not before.

This is a great reminder. I had not thought about the rivers and streams running to the Rio Grande.

The link was posted correctly three times and you click on the one that wasn’t. The text was posted and even that didn’t get through. If you can’t read and you can’t click a link there’s not much point in responding to you. I don’t have any coloring books for you.

“The Berlin wall was 96 miles. I guess you can make 96 miles of Soviet made wall work. However, a 2000 mile one is quite a gamble in the $billions it will cost to built it. If I were you, I would stay well away from the casinos in Los Vegas.”

I just don’t think the open-borders alternative is a good idea...and no, there’s no way we can afford the tens of billions per year to have a Border Patrol density high enough to stop them without a wall.

“My husband knows a family with a ranch on the Rio Grande . They don’t have access to 15 acres cut off by the fence. They used to grow hay, graze cattle, hunt there. Luckily, the ranch is large and they still can pay the taxes and bills.

The Patriot Act took pasture with no compensation, no recourse. But they still pay property tax.”

Sounds like they need a lawyer...they’ll do better if he cites the 5th Amendment (which the Patriot act does not override).

The correct question would be will the next President stop the invaders at the border and deport the ones who are here — at least before they send their kids to our schools for 3 years, and qualify for the exception Texas has for in state tuition.

This seems like it might be a bit overkill. Do we have a border problem?

“Most Texas ranchers are against the fence. It would take away their water rights for their cattle.
In the middle of the river?”

The fence is NOT for the ranchers, it’s for NATIONAL SECURITY, so their vote on it is the same as mine (a person, one vote). As far access to water...well there are ways:

Thanks for the warning and advice. I know I’m a NOOB, but I have lurked a LOOOONG time and have noted quite a few folk here who claim conservatism the loudest are cross threaded between the ears when it comes time to torque the nuts.

In three days, my intelligence, appearance, deportment, hygene and morality have been questioned (to put it mildly) by some who have been here a long time. Frankly, I’m not surprised. Ad Hominems are the first resort of the stupid and illogical. Start that, and I’ll bust your case quite unmercifully. I know I want a MUCH smaller government than many here, but of the 18 powers enumerated in the constitution for the Feds, about 16 are being ignored or grossly neglected while it has taken on a bajillion other powers even God chooses not to mess with. I’m doing what little I can to correct this the best way I can see how with my checkbook, my votes, my TEA party and cracking on this site.

Read my home page. Read my tagline. Do not challenge me with some soft headed, soft hearted PC/RINO bovine scatology, what the “independents” think, who is “electable”, or hypothetical babies who have been hauled through 300 miles of desert by their wonderful parents only to die on an ionized fence.

“The same people who cry “TTC! TTC! TTC!” to damn Perry seem to have absolutely no problem in seizing the ENTIRE RIO GRANDE WATERFRONT and putting it on MEXICO’S SIDE of a Fence.”

Some differences:

1) The TTC was an attempted LAND GRAB by Perry of 500,000 acres throughout Texas. His plan was to then turn over that land to private companies (typically ones connected to him, like Cintra) for unlimited tolling. It was the most INSANE transportation and land grab concept in US history, and it took over half a decade to STOP HIM.

2) The border wall is a national security issue...that simple.

“Now NPR is the defacto news source on fences and border control?”

When you can post an article showing that the wall over there does NOT work, then you may have a point.

Until then we generally do believe news sources on this site, rather than selectively dismiss them when they don’t fit our goals.

“Of course, you would have lots of costly batteries. It takes lots of power to overcome the voltage drop in miles of conductor. You are talking about an expensive system. Since I am not a electrical engineer, the type of system required to build a fence capable of delivering lethal protection is up for speculation. And it would be a gamble of a lot of money that could be easily defeated.

After all of that expense, I would come along, clamp an extension cord to the fence conductor, go down about 10 feet and clamp the other end of the extension cord to the fence conductor. Then, I would cut out about 10 feet of fence conductor between the clamps with my insulated wire cutter. No one would know the fence electrical preventative was defeated. And the fence would be an easy access point for border crossers.”

So why don’t the Palestinians do something similar in the West Bank? Because it’s always easier to be sitting on couch typing up these ideas than going out and actually doing it.

Kinda hard to hid where you come down...particularly our snipers give them some ‘help’ in descending.

The plan sucked and the plans is dead, because Rick Perry listened to his constituency.

But here is something to ponder...

We do have need for new infrastructure in Texas as people are flocking here for the economy, so how do we fund/ build new roads?
I think the nation should have picked up most of the tab for a trans national interstate.

Beyond that, The TTC fulfilled certain NAFTA requirements as passed by law.
Last week, Obama passed a law that opened ALL American roads to Mexican long haul truckers to satisfy the same requirement of the law called NAFTA

This will slaughter out trucking industry. Obama just shoved the knife in to the trucking industry and screwed and dissed his chum Jimmy Hoffa Jr

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-03-03/mexico-u-s-are-said-to-reach-agreement-on-end-to-border-trucking-dispute.html

Had Perry passed the TTC, those truckers would be on a controlled monitored corridor to Canada.
