Rick Perry: Time to consider defunding United Nations
CBS News ^ | Oct 18, 2011 | Brian Montopoli

Posted on 10/18/2011 8:03:53 PM PDT by Clairity

Republican presidential candidate and Texas governor Rick Perry said Tuesday that "it's time for us to have a serious discussion about defunding the United Nations."

After saying "I think it's time for this country to have a very real debate about foreign aid," he turned to the U.N., pointing to the Palestinian statehood push in order to criticize the organization.

"When you think about the Palestinian Authority circumventing those Oslo Accords and going to New York to try to create the conflict and to have themselves approved as a state without going through the proper channels is a travesty," he said. "And I think it's time not only to have that entire debate about all of our foreign aid, but in particular the U.N. Why are we funding that organization?"

Yes, I cheered this comment. I hope he will elaborate on this in the near future.

Let's get started.

I came away from this debate with a couple impressions.

Perry is willing to fight MItt for the nomination (as is Santorum) Cain is not.

Mitt talks smoothly and uses alot of words but really says nothing,it's amazing.

Newt is in a class by himself in understanding pretty much everything.

Bachmann has some good knowledge but she never takes a breath and her appeal to the "moms losing their homes" was kinda lame.

Paul is almost always great until, like tonight he blows all the good he's garnered throughout the debate. Tonight was bringing up Reagan negotiating for hostages with Iran.

Perry looks best when he talks about his plans but man he gets defensive over his record and looks like he wants to rip your head off. Cain had a good chance to differentiate himself from Romney and didn't even try but just sat there as Romney gave him a gentle slap.

Yeah, but would he actually do it? Sorry, but I remember another Texan who promised to: "fix social security first" - and nothing happened -- just excuses why the promise could not be implemented.

Sorry - don't promise a thing if you can't commit. And don't give me that 9/11 BS. We should be able to chew gum and walk at the same time. We should be able to defeat the Islamic horde AND fix our own domestic problems at the same time. Its not an either/or option. We have/had the money and the resources, then. We screwed up. Now social security isn't fixed.

Defund the UN? Bravo! But Wait, its a Texan that's speaking. So maybe ...

Did you notice Bachmann was the only one who said she would build an entire fence? Cain and Romney sidestepped and actually gave half hearted versions of Perry's proposal.

“Cain had a good chance to differentiate himself from Romney and didn’t even try but just sat there as Romney gave him a gentle slap.”

Because, as most of us figured it out by now, Cain is there to help Romney, no other reason. Plenty of evidence, including his behavior tonights, underscores this assessment.

I wish people knew this about him. He’s extremely protective of Texas, the US and and destroys what he considers its enemies before they know what hit ‘em.

NOT a reach-across-the-aisle guy. Except to eliminate bloodsuckers and they never see it coming.

Cain is more ready to be president then Perry.

Everybody on that stage should agree to shutting down the UN?

Everybody on that stage should be 100% for shutting down illegal alien entry into the US.

Build that electric fence Mr Cain!!!!

My vote is for Cain....

“Move the headquarters to Atlanta where the weather is nicer and the standard of living lower.”

Well, the UN said they needed to renovate their HQ building. Cost was, I think, 20 billion. Trump said he could do it for 6 billion, and build a new building from scratch.

I think they should take 5 billion and purchase the Falklands/Malvinas, removing that conflict. The remainder would go into a premiere meeting facility on the Falklands and nice living quarters for the dignitaries and staff and families, and also an upgraded airport.

Get them out of the USA entirely, solve a world hot spot, and have them work in a more focused, serious environment.

Nope, as TX governor, if he says he will do something, he does it. Then he takes ownership of it. By that I mean if he makes a mistake, he admits it. Very good Governor. He would make an excellent President. He is not a good debater, but actions speaks louder than words.

Sure he will. Right after he invites Texas to secede. This is boob bait, and you sucked it down whole.

Wait'll the media gets through with this one. Perry will be selling pencils on the street.

Perry has little patience for true parasites - ones that don’t even pretend to symbiotically support the host.

Well, I believe you support Cain, and he has no credibility in this arena.

If he wants something gone, it’s gone.

Unless it sneaked in across the river. Then he wants to educate it and make it a citizen.

If I had to go on the basis of observed behavior I would say Perry is there to help Romney, no other reason.

Big problem! Where is the money coming from. I will say that Perry has asked Obama for boots on the ground, drones, and aviation to fight the drug cartels and keep out the illegals. Obama has refused all the requests repeatedly. Perry has had multi-discipline teams on the border for a long time, but there is only so much that can be done. TX catches them and Ice lets them go. Futile.

Apparently Michelle wants a fence on top of mountains, at the bottom of ravines, and through rivers.

A lot of the border should be fenced, but only someone who hasn’t really thought about the issue or lived on the border would think that the literally entire border should have a fence.
