US quietly assumes military posture in Africa

NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) — By the time U.S. military forces left Somalia in 1994 after entering the lawless nation more than a year earlier to stop a famine, 44 Army soldiers, Marines and airmen had been killed and dozens more wounded. Thus ended America's last large-scale military intervention in Africa.

But the U.S. has come back, using special forces advisers, drones and tens of millions of dollars in military aid to combat a growing and multifaceted security threat. This time the United States is playing a less obtrusive role but is focusing once again on Somalia.

While putting few U.S. troops at risk, the United States is also providing intelligence and training to fight militants across the continent, from Mauritania in the west along the Atlantic Ocean, to Somalia in the east along the Indian Ocean.

The Pentagon is paying a lot more attention to Africa than in years past, analysts say. ..

And, most worrisome to the United States, an al-Qaida-linked group in Somalia has recruited dozens of Americans, most of them of Somali descent.

"If you ask me what keeps me awake at night, it is the thought of an American passport-holding person who transits through a training camp in Somalia and gets some skill and then finds their way back into the United States to attack Americans here in our homeland," Gen. Carter Ham, the commander of the U.S. Africa Command, said in Washington this month. "That's mission failure for us."

U.S. and European officials also worry that AQIM is working to establish contacts with Boko Haram and al-Shabab, the Islamist Somali insurgent group.

If you have interests everywhere, then u have effectiveness NOWHERE. And in between the medium-long list of nations you love and the short list of those you hate there SHOULD be a super long list of simply nations you don’t care about:

AFRICA..!!!!

Africa veritably LEAPS into my mind, there.

It’s screwed up, and that’s sad, and IT IS PERMANENT.

So WHAT if they’re animists, or Christian, or Muslim or WHATEVUH, the most effective war on ANY throat-slitting African trip is best fought at the American IMMIGRATION BOOTH.

I can’t believe we’re doing this.

“No War for Oil”...? Hey a war for oil is MILES better than a war for NOTHING, which neatly describes ANY war in Africa, EVAR...

"Do we really have to kick everyone’s butt in the world? What are our strategic interests in Africa"?

In the war on terror we have only a tactical interest.

However, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Iraq and the smaller Gulf states have an existential interest in the Horn of Africa, as does Kenya.

We need to protect those regimes for 10 more years so that we can bring on domestic supplies of hydrocarbons.

We have Strategic Interests there by extension.

Uhuh.  Evidently having a Marxist protege of the Weathermen Underground in the White Hut has taken all the fun out of being an "anti-war" enthusiast.
"Vacaville resident Cindy Sheehan has been arrested at a Wall Street protest in Sacramento."

One war ends another starts.
...............

The guy I’m going to vote for POTUS is the one who says it’s time to take care of the USA, not the world. It’s time defense means defending our own borders and not Afghanistan’s or Iraq or any other country. We’re going broke taking care of and rebuilding other countries mostly for profiteers and not for Americans. It’s time to end this craziness and end the foreign aid giveaways too, which are not even on the super committee agenda for cuts.

I won’t even get into the destruction that this is doing to our military readiness when we really need a defense.

Nigeria for starters.

Where the US is absent chaos produces huge problems for us and our interests across the globe like it or not. Not that I have any hope or expectation this idiot knows how to protect our interests. Quite the contrary.

What are our strategic interests in Africa?

Cheap real world weapons testing. You blow up a few Africans to make sure the weapons systems can work in the field when operated by our troops before you buy a large contract supply of them from the manufacturer. It gives you honest feedback from the troops using the equipment and a realistic assessment of how effective the hardware is when deployed half a world away, and nobody gets hurt, ... excepting a few nobodies. /s

Whne you think about it, the Chinese will have every chance when black tribes begin attacking Chinese farmers. If black dictators start terrorizing Chinese farmers, the Chinese government can treat this as a chance to retaliate militarily in the viewpoint of protecting their citizens and interests. It would be the perfect testing ground for their military capabilites. They can then end up figuring out their strengths and weaknesses and find out what needs to be improved.

Smart move. Obama is getting crazier by the month and by the time it’s time for him to leave, he will likely have ot be sent to the loony bin. By sending our troops over there ot be butchered, he is sending them to die over ntohing worth fighting for.

Our troops should come home where htey are wanted and will be appreciated. I am sick of our troops being used to police the world, the world that makes America so much of a target.

Story starts:

“NAIROBI, Kenya”.

Hmm.

Is Obama planning an overthrow to put anyone in particular, in power there? A relative perhaps?

Dark mContinent Occupy has been under way for a long time, Obama supports the take over of Kenya by Sharia Law, which is exactly what he did in Libya.

Now its Kenya, because Obama wants his native Luo tribe to run Kenya:

What are our strategic interests in Africa?

Same as our strategic interests in Afghanistan pre-911. The days when you could isolate yourself from your enemies are LONG gone. Al Qaeda can reach and a touch you from any place in the world.

Ain't technology grand?

Why are we allowing loads of Somali ‘refugees’ here? They are Islamists. They are troublemakers at best who sue every company they work for. Trojan horse.

Kenya to stay in Somalia until ‘threat’ is gone
http://news.yahoo.com/kenya-stay-somalia-until-threat-gone-101500862.html

The chief of Kenya’s armed forces says Kenyan troops will stay in southern Somalia until Kenyans feel safe again...

...Karangi says that although Kenya has bilateral military agreements with countries like the United States and Britain, those allies are not directly involved militarily in the incursion into Somalia.
