It ain’t just the Long Island Railroad. This is a dirty secret of any government rail employment. Corrupt doctors finding things wrong with rail employees to find them “permanently disabled” or to have hearing loss or carpal tunnel to get some bonus $$$$$$$. It is a true crime being foisted on taxpayers.

The Left’s union protests have revealed big medical fraud in organized crime/labor. Recall the rent-a-docs who were providing “sick notes” to let the deadbeats claim they couldn’t come to work that day because they were “out sick”.

Hope they get the names and evidence on the Doctors that took the payoffs to commit this fraud. Then send them all to jail.

“This is a dirty secret of any government rail employment.”

Why would you believe this dirty secret is limited to “rail union”. I would bet this “dirty secret” is true with any public union. All Public Union should independently audited. Where did all the money go? How many Public Union funds bought Solyndra socks.?

LUV those public unions…

The Times articles reported that virtually every career employee of the railroad was applying for and receiving disability payments, giving the Long Island Rail Road a disability rate of three to four times that of the average railroad. The Times found that retired railroad employees who had successfully claimed disability were regularly playing golf at a state-owned course without charge — another perquisite of their disability.

This isn't just rail employees, but all government employees.

What percentage of police officers and firefighters decide to "get" a disability just before they were about to retire so they can add disability payments on top of retirement pay?

All railroads have tort injury and disability systems, not workmen’s comp like the rest of the economy. Thus, the union workers get “injured” or “disabled” frequently. Their steward steers them to the “right” doctors and lawyers (who kickback to or bribe the steward) who produce the diagnosis and file the lawsuit almost in tandem. The RR then settles the “injury” suit for 30%, the lawyer gets his 30-40% of this and kicks more back to the steward to keep the claims coming. This story is not surprising, only the amount defrauded and tenure of the fraud.

Exactly. I used to work for a railroad and worked with claims and it was exactly as you said. Just before retirement, like clockwork, each retiree would all the sudden have a FELA carpal tunnel, hearing loss and other claims. They’d get $5K or $10K as a retirement “bonus.” It was disgusting.
