Cain responds to sex harassment allegation
Washington Examiner ^ | October 30, 2011 | Byron York

Posted on 10/30/2011 7:06:28 PM PDT by markomalley

Herman Cain's campaign headquarters has released a response to a story, broken this evening on Politico, that in the 1990s two female employees of the National Restaurant Association "complained to colleagues and senior association officials about inappropriate behavior by Cain," who at the time was head of the trade group.

Calling the story "thinly source allegations," Cain spokesman J.D. Gordon said: "Since Washington establishment critics haven't had much luck in attacking Mr. Cain's ideas to fix a bad economy and create jobs, they are trying to attack him in any way they can."  Gordon did not address any of the specific allegations in the report.  Asked for a more specific answer, the campaign did not provide details.

Here is Gordon's complete response:

Inside the Beltway media attacks Cain

Fearing the message of Herman Cain who is shaking up the political landscape in Washington, Inside the Beltway media have begun to launch unsubstantiated personal attacks on Cain.

Dredging up thinly sourced allegations stemming from Mr. Cain’s tenure as the Chief Executive Officer at the National Restaurant Association in the 1990s, political trade press are now casting aspersions on his character and spreading rumors that never stood up to the facts.

Since Washington establishment critics haven't had much luck in attacking Mr. Cain's ideas to fix a bad economy and create jobs, they are trying to attack him in any way they can.

Sadly, we’ve seen this movie played out before – a prominent Conservative targeted by liberals simply because they disagree with his politics.

Mr. Cain -- and all Americans, deserve better.

Cain is likely to face questions about the matter on Monday.  He is scheduled to appear at the American Enterprise Institute in Washington in the morning to discuss his 9-9-9 tax plan, and then speak -- and take questions -- at the National Press Club at lunch.

if hitting the ground counts as stoppinng your free fall then yes, Perry had stopped his freefall, but this has Mitt’s fingerprints all over it. But regardless of who was responsible for this... he ANY of the candidates try to go after Herman on this... they will 100% destroy their candidacy. Heck if they even get checky with it, it would probably destroy them, this is radioactive to all of them, and they would all be smart to take Herman’s side on this and circle the wagons agaist this type of frivolous smear of another candidate and good man.

lol

Is it sad I'm praying that Texas becomes annexed by Mexico?

To certain Texans, SUPER LIBERAL AMNESTY COMMUNISTS > any American. Why? because he's from Texas!

To the morons who emigrated to Texas, Texas used to be called Tejas.

You had to get a drunk from Tennessee to get your state independent from Mexico, and how do you thank the rest of the union? You support amnesty, free tuition to illegals, guns to illegal gangs, rapes and murders across the Rio Grande and call the rest of us racist for not supporting Rick Perry???

I'll take 50 more years of Obama than a wolf in sheep's clothing. Atleast with Obama I know I'm getting raped, with Perry I get double talk and now suddenly Cain has sexual allegations launched against him? I guess Good Ole Fat Boy Karl Rove finally realized Herman Cain is here to stay!!! FUKR, FUFNC, FUMR, and FUBO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Marty- if your guy Perry were ahead in the polls the Libs would be dragging out the Gay card, the Anita caught him in the act and the Miami drag bar incident allegatons - so be careful about your disparaging conclusion on Mr. Cain.

With all due respect!

“Someone just emailed me that they heard the Rick Perry camp let this one
loose. Has anyone seen anything on this?”

It wouldn’t benefit Perry. He’s almost in last place. Cain’s people would not go to Perry if the story is true. Cain’s people would go to his friend , Romney. Your friend who emailed you is way off on this one.
if I were Cain, I would just ignore it. Twenty years ago. Has nothing to do with anything if there is no proof.

I don’t know, I’ve read about 3 threads so far and that’s all I have time for now.

Looks like total nothing to me.

I smell Mitt Romney’s hand in this..if the dems had this, they would have held it to use in the general election...

Don't know if it's Romney but you're correct saying the dems would have held onto this information.

If there was anything of substance to this, Herman Cain would have never run for President, knowing that it would come out. So, I’m sure this is much ado about nothing.

“Wrong.. this has Perry written all over it. His free fall finally settled and now he’s launching attacks against conservatives.

Rick Perry is a sleazeball.”

Really interesting you would automatically point at a candidate instead of the Obama camp. Wouldn’t it make more sense that Obama and company are reminding Cain that his anti-Obama rhetoric is over the cliff lately? And they’re not going to take it anymore.

If you have faith in your candidate, let it play out.

Meanwhile, “bereaved” muslims are suing a Catholic school accusing them of having crosses on display.

Sexual harassment? Holy Cross harassment? Whatever...

” In any event, there was no touching, just alleged innuendos.”

“The woman revealed at the time that she had suffered what the source described as “an unwanted sexual advance” from Cain at a hotel where an event involving the group was taking place.”

There were no allegations of touching, only of innuendo. "Sexual advance" covers everything: physical, verbal and gesture, just like "assault" versus "battery".

Just an FYI. The reason that several people, including some pretty big names, suggest this is because there have been two credible warnings of a smear campaign on Cain coming from the Perry camp, the most recent was just last week - and the warning came directly from a staff member to Iowa volunteers.

“In a series of comments over the past 10 days, Cain and his campaign repeatedly declined to respond directly about whether he ever faced allegations of sexual harassment at the restaurant association. They have also declined to address questions about specific reporting confirming that there were financial settlements in two cases in which women leveled complaints.”

If this were true, wouldn’t the payoff be in the National Restaurant Association’s federal reports? They may not be a 501(c)3 but they probably have to file regular statements of their expenditures with the IRS. Should be easy enough to check these facts if they have an idea of the time this happened.

Whoraldo made the point that if there was a lawsuit (however frivolous) that was settled, part of the deal would be a non-disclosure agreement. So Cain cannot answer the questions directly. If that's true it's going to be ugly.

I am not saying that is what it is, it could be Romney or Rove for all I know. I would think liberals would sit on this until after the nomination, if Cain were to be the nominee.

I think the establishment GOP may hate Cain as much as much as the liberals.

If there was a settlement, there would be a non-disclosure agreement, so Cain couldn’t even admit there was such a suit, or say anything else about it. It sounds like it was frivolous in the first place, but it puts Cain in a real bind, unless the plaintiffs come out in public.

Yeah. I saw that too. I didn’t think they were credible warnings at all. I also saw that the Perry camp was going to destroy Romney quickly. I just shook my head. Foolish stuff. It shows you how the media thinks we’re a bunch of stupid kids. Perry is in no position to go negative. He has to sell his policy one on one. Michele Bachman is only hanging around so she can attack Perry for Romney. I honestly believed Cain was in for that reason too...but it looks like he wants the gig.

The only person who will benefit from this all out Republican war is Newt Gingrich. I think the story was planted by the Obama camp. They hate Cain attacking Obama and thus stories are going to start coming out just as they did when Obama and Hillary were competing.

If Cain is clean on this and holds on to his dignity by not playing the race card, nothing else will stick to him either. If the story has some legs, well, it’s best we know now. A lot of big names have endorsed him and a lot of credibility is at stake.
My choice is Perry. If a clean Cain is the last man standing, I’ll vote for him.
