For Herman Cain, forget the treats; just bring on the tricks.
Republican presidential contender Herman Cain is the subject of a bombshell accusation on Halloween day that he sexually harassed two women during his tenure at the National Restaurant Association. Cain stoutly denies the charges.
The curious thing about the accusations against Cain are their timing. Why now? Why did Politico break the news now, as opposed to weeks before or later, if Cain secured the GOP presidential nomination? Did Politico only obtain the story now, or had it been sitting on the report for a while? Why now?
Early opinion among conservative leaders is that the fossil media is up to its old tricks in reporting allegations of sexual harassment against Cain. Politico is serving as the cat's paw for its liberal allies and the Democrat Party, goes the thinking. This could be. The fossil media - Politico included - may have determined that Cain poses a potent threat to Barack Obama's presidency and that he had to be politically offed now before he gained any more momentum. A Cain presidency could shake liberaldom, the race industry, and the Democratic Party to its foundations.
But there's another consideration to make in the Cain attack. Who benefits immediately from bursting Cain's fast-rising presidential balloon? Why, Cain's Republican rivals. Sherlock Holmes wasn't about sleuthing for the obvious suspects, nor should those following the Cain story as it unfolds. It may be worth investigating Cain's GOP rivals, who have every reason to facilitate

You argue against yourself. If Politico got the story by their own sleuthing, then yes, your timeline might hold. But if it was a tip from the GOP, then it could have come to them as early as 10 days ago. A tip is a tip, is a tip, is...

The way the race looks today, one could argue he needs Perry in the race to counter Cain, not the other way around. I personally don't think Perry is coming back. I think he's done.
Even if Cain faltered, I think the base, faced with a choice between Perry and Newt, at this point would pick Newt. And I am sure Romney has a nice fat file on Newt. That will be easy pickins.
But you could be right. Either way, I believe this came from a Cain rival, not from the left. I wonder if we'll ever find out.
Romney needs Perry around, rather. The second choice of polled Perry supporters has been shown to be Romney. His Palin preventative burned out too quick and led to Romney having a real challenger: Cain.
Get a grip - this is politico. The paper was created to serve obama. Romney needs Cain as a viable running mate and it would be too high risk for GOP to do this. Has anyone ruled out the Cain campaign? Bachmann?
I don’t know why this keeps being talked about in such breathless tones, e.g. as a “bombshell.”
Anyone’s whose been in business for several decades has seen these types of complaints, and worse, made in the workplace and they understand their dynamics. Which, without much more, are hardly a “bombshell.”
They also know, especially 20 or so years ago, HR departments, like insurance companies, regularly just paid people a small sum (or a large sum if they were loudmouths) to shut up and get the hell out of their company/department.
It’s possible that a Republican is the source. But with all the scandals hitting Obama lately, I wouldn’t be surprised if the press didn’t do this themselves so they don’t have to report the bad stuff on their guy.
Probably so, especially after the WTF-ness of that speech the other day.
I still consider his campaign the prime suspect.

That is certainly true to an extent. Though, Perry does have the money and infrastructure that Cain does not. Either way, Romney needs them both for the early rounds. If Romney can take Iowa, and NH in a landslide, he strengthens his hand greatly.
For the record, I am a Cain supporter (i like his business background). That stated, I will vote for ANY (including Mitt and Newt) republican in the general.

While Politico presented the story as a typical hit job (Headline: Cain accused of sexual harrassment; body of article: but it was investigated and there was no there there), and that's not fair journalism, if the complaints were made, they were made. And that needs to come out now and be addressed.
Personally, I think this story reminds people of so much that is wrong with Liberal policies and the way they distorted the workplace and the legal system.
Since this is a Republican candidate we are talking about, we will probably never know, but I would bet the two who initiated the “complain” probably have a history of having done the same thing several other times.
It could be dropping dime on another Repub and still serve Obama. It’s not impossible or mutually exclusive.
PS--I'm with you on the general. It's unpleasant, but that's politics for you. It's not as if holding your nose is anything new. And though we grow weary of it, it will still be a very clear and obvious choice.
These types of charges are designed to disappoint and discourage the conservative base.
We know very well that the Rats could care less about one of their candidates actually engaging in sex CRIMES, much less this.
So, unless someone still wants to talk about the actual incident and Cain's response, etc., in my view, the best thing we can do is simply stop talking about the story. Period.
And we sure as Hell's Bells need to stop calling it a "bombshell" and the like. It's not a bombshell that a man in leadership in business for several years had a complaint filed against him because he "offended" someone. It happens. All the time, unfortunately. So evaluate it as the cost of doing business in a Liberally-distorted workplace. If there's no there there, shut up about it and move on.
That's my take and I'm sticking to it.
Or maybe it was put out to be dealt with now rather than later.
Why does it have to come from a GOP campaign? Why not a past DC hack, like Rove?
But a story has to be evaluated before it can be placed in the "fact" or "smear job" category.
In this case, the complaints did happen. That is a fact and it needs to be vetted.
That is a separate issue from HOW that fact was presented to the public by Politico.
Once the facts of the incident have been evaluated, then that should be that.
KCarl Rove’s fingerprints are all over this. He will stab any Conservative in the back, no matter the damage it does.
It would not surprise me. Perry, Bachmann, Gingrich, and Santorum have the most to benefit from a Cain fall, though Romney can't be ruled out either.
