>>Couldn’t be that his divorcing wife did the video years ago before divorcing him, could it?<<

Can one imagine what damage could be done by a political rival knowing that a daughter was illegally downloading things from the internet?

How many times had she done it and how many times was she warned?

I don’t condone the length of time he did it, or that the wife is made out to be innocent but there is more to this story.

Oh by all means. And when I ask others what they would do when they catch their kid lying, stealing or cheating repeatedly, they don't have an answer.

Agreed that there’s not enough info on the whole matter, yet, but the man administered punishment improperly. It was more of an assault from fear/anger than discipline. Also, on the topic of corporal punishment in general, it’s not usually needed with 16-year-olds, if they were properly reared when much younger. By the age of 16, the good ones tend to possess sympathy for others enough to correct themselves.

There are also implications in regard to copyright law now as compared to copyright law in the past. How would the girl be treated in prison?

None. It would do no damage. It’s done by practically everybody with an Internet connection. That’s part of what makes his behavior so bizarre.
