David Shuster condemns Michigan Republicans for bill that supports bullying (VIDEO)
Countdown, CurrentTV ^ | November 4, 2011 | David Shuster, CurrentTV

Posted on 11/05/2011 10:15:20 AM PDT by Colonel Kangaroo

“Countdown” guest host David Shuster calls out Michigan’s Republican lawmakers for moving a so-called anti-bullying bill forward with language that actually protects bullies. Shuster calls “Matt’s Law” – named after a 14-year-old boy who killed himself in 2002 after anti-gay classmates poured syrup and crushed eggs on his head – “an embarrassment to anybody with half a brain in the great state of Michigan.”

I'm slow, but thatks to Mr. Shuster, I finally understand fully the agenda behind the "bullying" bill craze. Mr. Shuster seems to be upset that the Michigan Senate bill did not go far enough in muzzzling students' expresssion of Christian values. And for the benefit of Shuster and his ilk, the Bible never authorizes Christians to bully or abuse anybody!

“ an embarrassment to anybody with half a brain “

Don’t see what the problem is - Liberals (by definition, ‘half a brain’) are incapable of embarrassment...

Yep, you get it.

The bill the democrats wanted would have made it a crime for a Christian to openly oppose homosexuality.

This all originated with Kevin Jennings, former Safe Schools Czar, pushing his homo agenda.

Typical statis tactic. Take an emotionally charged word like bully, pour new meaning into it, then use it as a weapon against your enemies.

Exactly, they were hoping people would give the expected knee jerk reaction to the word “Bully” and they could criminalize Christian doctrine.

This is a common tactic on the left - exploit temporary hysteria to permanently enshrine in law thought and action control of their opponents.

Another is to use take a commonly understood term and extend its meaning to include nonsense. For example, "rape" now can include any intercourse the woman later regrets, and if anyone objects to an unjust prosecution on these grounds they can be labled as being "for rape."

All a bullying bill does is change the victims into the bullies.

The new victims then no longer have any protections.

The should just call the bill the anti white Christian male with a job bill.

We have staked the whole future of American civilization, not upon the power of government, far from it. We have staked the future of all our political institutions upon the capacity of mankind for self-government; upon the capacity of each and all of us to govern ourselves, to control ourselves, to sustain ourselves according to the Ten Commandments of God.

Exactly. Interestingly, the Founders expected that law would be prostituted, and installed a check, the Right to Trial by a Jury of Peers. The Jury may nullify a prosecution under a prostituted law.

Informed Jurors certainly will.

All this BS about getting tough on bullying is a just that BS. The administrators and powers that be just want another layer of bureaucracy and laws to cover their incompetent asses because they won’t do their jobs and enforce discipline.

The best thing to do when a bully is involved is a punch right in the nose, followed by 5 or 10 more. Take your part and beat the bully badly or hurt him so much he will think twice before messing with you again.

"The bill the democrats wanted would have made it a crime for a Christian to openly oppose homosexuality."

Oh, it's far, far worse than that. The bill prohibits any gesture or writing or utterance -- on or off school property and including electronically transmitted communication -- that is perceived as being motivated by race, color, religion, ancestry, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression.

This is a wholesale abridgement of First Amendment rights. It is a pathetic attempt to use the law to force people to be nice, and is fraught with all sorts potential for supposedly unintended consequences.

But, really, it's just another demonstration of the incompetence of government to provide essential services like education and, more fundamentally, how any expansion of the state (e.g., education, health care) comes at the expense of liberty.

That's exactly why our government was deliberately designed to work at a snail's pace. The last few years have shown that everything the democrats want to do is called a dire emergency that we can't afford to let wait.

Short of an army massing on our border, there are few true emergencies our government must deal with immediately.

We certainly didn’t have bullying laws when I was in school and I was a natural target......till I ended it.

Shuster is exactly what I envision when I picture the kid on the playground who is always running away from the other boys like a scared bunny rabbit. I mean, who wouldn’t pick on that weasel-faced little faggot? Shuster’s a faggot, right?

Don’t see what the problem is - Liberals (by definition, ‘half a brain’) are incapable of embarrassment...

Right. To feel embarrassment, one must accept at least a few of the "norms" of society, one must at least feel like they are a part of the larger society to some extent.

Liberals, who by and large are, in the present time, extreme left-wing radicals, reject society. They reject pretty much everything about the Western concepts of work, self-reliance, achievment, the rule of law, etc., etc.

For that reason, they can't be embarrassed. They feel that they are at war with everything, with reality.

The fact that, in most places in the world, placing onesself in opposition to society in general will get you persecuted, imprisoned, even tortured and killed... doesn't faze them in the least. The fact that they are protected and nurtured by forces and institutions within our society isn't seen by them as anything to be thankful for. It's seen as a symptom of the weakness and susceptibility of our society. It's an invitation for further mayhem, as license for destruction.

These people are truly delusional; as we've seen in the Occupy movement, not a few of them are actually quite mad.

They are the useful idiots that every communist insurrection needs to gain power. As soon as they take power, they are swept aside by the real revolutionaries. As another Freeper said earlier this week: "they live their last moments staring into a mass grave, saying to themselves what's happening? what did I do wrong?"

You know, I’ve actually had food poured on my head by a bully - I remember the experience well. I didn’t go out and kill myself over it.

Yes. Sadly, cruel treatment is and long has been widespread in our public detention facilities. 99.9% of kids tough it out and become stronger adults than the brats inflicting the injury and insult. A better solution than PC legislation would be for administrators and teachers to earn their pensions and pay better attention to what happens within the prison walls.
