SONORA, Calif. -- A 65-foot white fir tree selected as the U.S. Capitol Christmas tree was cut down and removed from a picturesque setting in the Sierra Nevada mountains on Saturday, then loaded on a truck for a 4,500-mile journey from Northern California to Washington, D.C.
When crews arrived at the tree Saturday morning they found it covered in snow, said Jeff Crider, a spokesman for U.S Capitol Christmas Tree Tour, a nonprofit project overseen by the U.S. Forest Service.
[snip] Work crews will box it up on Sunday, with a portion encased in Plexiglas so that people can view it during its upcoming nationwide tour. A bladder bag attached to its base will be filled with water on a daily basis to keep the tree fresh, Crider said.
The tree is scheduled to arrive in Washington, D.C. on Nov. 28, with a lighting ceremony at the front of the U.S. Capitol on Dec. 6.

Didn't the tree fall down last year?
And WTF will this cost us?
The trees are usually donated, IIRC.
The theme this year is “California Shines” and 5,000 ornaments from Californians will be part of the tree decorations.
It was the National Christmas Tree that high winds took down last February.
The National Christmas Tree is a planted, living tree, located in the Ellipse in back of the White House. The Capitol Christmas Tree is a harvested tree which is erected on the West Lawn of the Capitol.
The National Christmas Tree is lit by the President and First Lady; the Capitol Christmas Tree is traditionally lit by the Speaker of the House (Boehner this year, Pelosi last year) and stays lit thru New Year’s Day.
God knows what 5,000 ornaments from California will look like. I’m sure there will be some nice ones done by conservatives, but I shudder what will come out of the Bay Area. I imagine many with the gay pride rainbow, etc. I’m sure some “artistic type” will come up with something good for his Christmas balls.
Considering the cost this just does not seem practical transporting a tree 4,500 miles.
I am not against cutting trees, but will the people concerned about trees, the pollution, voice objection?
it’s privately funded. A list of corporate donors, such as MackTruck, CHP, Walgreens, Lowes, Eddie Bauer, blah blah, and so important, mom-and-pop contributors, can be found at the site, under ‘donate’, or below

There’ll be some cute little glass bongs among other traditional California lifestyle ornaments.
I imagine Barry may keep a few of those as “mementos” for himself.
What will they call it this year, a Happy Tree?
A muslim celebrating Christmas how nice! Wonder what kind of vile crap they will hang on this one. Nice to know they can still put on a show.
Oh one more thing, is this the tree the zero’s planted to offset the wookies vacation carbon footprint?
Raping California again.
Funny!! This is the headline.............................
Christian holiday Christmas tree comes to a muslim home in DC from a liberal progressive athiest state without concern over a carbon foot print
They actually CUT a tree down in California?
The only reason I believe the nobama administration “cut down” the tree is symbolic of what they are attempting to do to America. Just watch nobama and his wacky family yet again scowl as they have it put up.
“A muslim celebrating Christmas how nice!”
Not to worry. Hawaii is really nice this time of year. He won’t have to look at the Christmas tree for too long. n/S
I wonder if the marxists currently infesting the WH will allow it to be called a Christmas tree.
WTF? I didn't realize that the national Christmas tree was being used as a Chamber of Commerce bulletin board, thus, obliterating its true meaning and is a slap in the face to all who celebrate Christmas.
