Joe Paterno probably adhered to the letter of the law

Yeah, but he's the face of that program, and given the seriousness of what went on, I expected a lot more from him.....I think he's gone after this season. PSU needs to turn the page as quickly as possible to put this behind them, and it could be years before they can overcome this.

They’re calling for Paterno to resign now.

I thought Sandusky left Penn State way before 2002. If that’s the case why was he in the locker room?

And the law says you report sexual abuse of a child to your supervisor but not the police. Also, I thought JoePa said he was fooled. Then what did he report to his superiors?

Was just posting.

Paterno knew and didn’t report to police. Horrible.

Imagine it were your child abused in the seven years after Paterno knew. Hope all do jail time and the families take them for every nickel they’ve got.

Sexual predators don;t stop until someone makes them stop.

If they are not stopped, there are more victims.

And the victim is not just a child, but an entire family.

Sandusky preyed on at-risk boys from a non profit program that was to help them. Not lead them to greater harm.

Not only are the boys victims, but that program is now a victim, which means other boys will not be helped.

No man is an island, and what we do has consequnces far greater than us alone.

Sandusky is a sick man, who has transferred his sickness unto others, innocent others.

Sandusky was given access to the campus, locker rooms after he left his position.

It was so he could bring in boys from his “Second Mile” program for “at-risk” children.

After the 2002 incident Joe Pa heard about, Sandusky was prohibited from bringing boys from his program into the locker rooms.

Sandusky was still given access to the campus, though, until Saturday. Then Penn State announced he was banned.

The smell of cover-up is deep in this situation, but I’m not going to pile on Paterno.

The big wheels wanted to paper this over and pretend nothing was wrong, that’s obvious.

If one can argue that someone like Paterno (the star or celebrity) has more power than the administration, who felt like they had to cover this up for the reputation of Paterno and the football program, then I see the point of those who are upset.

John Cooper was let go as Ohio State's head coach in 2001. He still has an office at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center on campus.

After the 2002 incident Joe Pa heard about, Sandusky was prohibited from bringing boys from his program into the locker rooms.

So JoePa thought by doing that, it would stop Sandusky from continuing to victimize boys? If you know somebody is a pedo, you do whatever it takes to stop them in their tracks.

The way the story is being laid out in the grand jury report, Paterno heard the eyewitness account from someone who says he saw the rape of the boy in the shower room.

Paterno contacted Athletic Director Tim Curley to report it.

Curley met with the eyewitness along with VP Schultz, who oversees the university police.

They are apparently behind the action taken following the report about the rape (Prohibiting Sandusky from bringing boys into the locker rooms).

I think this is going to go down the same way as climategate .

The same good old boy network trumps both law and morality.

I won’t disagree with you on that.

But we shall see what does or doesn’t happen in the days and weeks ahead.

Paterno will probably not go to jail, if he followed the "letter of the law."

But his reputation and career are over.

Here's the question to ask Paterno - Did you do everything in your power to make sure no more young boys were raped and abused?

If he can't answer that question with a definitive "Yes" then he is done. And I don't see anyway that he can answer that question with definitive "yes."

He heard the specific allegations, made a phone call, and went back to reviewing game tapes.

Collegiate athletics is a sick puppy!!! On top of this sort of recurring theme, there is the outrageous money paid to “coaches” despite the fact that they do little to enhance the academic programs in the public universities, except for giving some minority type who probably gets “help” with his classes to make millions because he can “throw a ball through a hoop.”

What did Paterno know? You are making a helluva charge with that statement.

All we know for sure is that someone told Paterno that he witnessed Sandusky with a boy in the locker room shower. Paterno told Tim Curley, who investigated the matter.

Is Paterno supposed to investigate allegation made by someone? Is Paterno supposed to double-check the Athletic Department's investigation into the matter?

Paterno has set some of the highest standards of conduct in college football and has dismissed players who were not performing academically while other programs use tricks to keep stupid jocks on the team.

To accuse Paterno of "knowing" is over-the-line with the facts as we know them.

Paterno, is one of the last of the old school coaches. He like Bob Knight did at Indiana is Athletics at Penn State. Paterno has consolidated power over 40 years and if it happened in his locker room ...he knew.

If it was rumored to have happened he found out!

I hope the whole mess is false but either way Paterno knew. The truth will come out.
