History Channel Special 'Vietnam in HD' Shows War in Excruciating Detail (Starts Tonight!)

In honor of Veterans’ Day, the History Channel is premiering a new, six-hour series, “Vietnam in HD.”

Following the success of its Emmy-winning series, “WWII in HD,” the History Channel’s new documentary focuses on one of the most controversial chapters in U.S. history: the conflict in Vietnam.

Culling thousands of hours of uncensored footage from war correspondents and never-before seen film shot by soldiers on the front lines, “Vietnam in HD” follows firsthand accounts of veterans who served during the conflict in Vietnam.

The footage has been converted into state-of-the art HD, so at times it feels as if one is watching a movie shot in 2011. But the footage is all to real. In often emotional testimony, men and women who served their country during the conflict remember some of Vietnam’s most infamous battles.

Right now the idiot with the alien fetish is taking about his fantasies so I’m watching The Universe on H2.

11/8/65 was one of the first major ground engagement for US forces in VN. If you look at the black and white photo on my profile page, the Sergeant Major on the far right was there...

I would imagine they had to go through quite a lot of digital processing on much of that material - virutally all of the action footage will be low-quality video or better but still not HD-quality film footage. The news crews using film cameras were using smaller, portable gear; not the nice theater-quality film cameras a Hollywood production would use.

Definitely interested in seeing this series.

The most “excruciating detail” about the Vietnam War, was the traitorous lies told by the Communist American media, led by Walter Cronkite.

I was in the Saigon RepoDepo on 11-8-1965 waiting to be assigned to the Armor unit. Next thing I know I was reassigned to 11B and was a replacement in the 1st 503rd for one of the fallen soldiers.

It was a eerie feeling to be dropped off in front of a platoon tent and upon entering only seeing about five men sitting on cots. When I asked which one could I use I was told to take my pick as the previous owners were not coming back.

Death in the Ia Drang was written by Jack P. Smith (Son of CBS newsman Howard K. Smith) and is the first hand account of the Vietnam War battle portrayed in the movie and book “We Were Once Soldiers”. This account happens after those depicted in the movie were relieved. The article starts about a third of the way down the page

Agreed. Another lie still perpetuated is that we "lost" the war. The North violated the 1973 Treaty of Paris, not once but twice. It's NEVER mentioned.
Also never mentioned, is how North Vietnam's VIPs have admitted it was the anti-war scumbags marching in 1968 who gave them the "courage" to continue after we KICKED THEIR @SS during their Tet Offensive.

My Dad served in the 173rd Airborne in 67-68 he is gone now but he will always be a hero to me... Hope this series doesn’t make our men out to be monsters like Stone did in Platoon.

“traitorous lies told by the Communist American media, led by Walter Cronkite.”

There was a true story about Cronkite, told by himself. When Walter was reporting from Germany in the closing days of WW2, some Americans called out his name from a distance. Hearing this, some nearby Germans fled in another direction, supposing they heard “Krankheit”, which means sickness. An apt description of the man, as we later discovered.

Hear Hear. I said after that asshole died, he is playing cards with Hitler and Stalin. He was responsible for the USA being labeled losers in the Vietnam War. When in reality our soldiers never lost the Vietnam War, the politicians in Washington lost it. Namely the Democrat party. They all have the blood of 58 thousand young men on their hands. Bastard be dammned to hell. Sorry.
