Penn State trustees fire football coach Joe Paterno and PSU president Spanier

Penn State trustees fired football coach Joe Paterno and university president Graham Spanier (SPAN-yer) amid the growing furor over how the school handled sex abuse allegations against an assistant coach.

The massive shakeup Wednesday night came hours after Paterno announced that he planned to retire at the end of his 46th season.

But the outcry following the arrest of former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky on molestation charges proved too much for the board to ignore.

One key question has been why Paterno and other top school officials didn't go to police in 2002 after being told a graduate assistant saw Sandusky assaulting a boy in a school shower...

Yup, thats where my wondering about Arlen Specter and pols potentially being involved in this comes from. I have no idea if there’s a connection at all. But wouldn’t pols qualify as rich/powerful? And wouldnt that kind of power slam the kind of lid on this thing that existed for over a decade?

Inquiring minds and all that. I’m sure I’m not the first to think along those lines.

The grand jury report states that the grad asst. told Paterno “what he saw”. That’s it. Doesn’t say it was specific, doesn’t say it wasn’t. In the report McQueary describes in detail what he saw. So on it’s face if the report says he told Paterno what he saw we have to assume it was all of it. We don’t know that of course but the possibility exists that what Paterno was told and how he re-told it are two very different things.

From the GJ report:

“Joseph V. Paterno testified to receiving the graduate assistants report at his home on a Saturday morning. Paterno testified that the graduate assistant was very upset. Paterno called Tim Curley, Penn State Athletic Director and Paternos immediate superior to his home the very next day, a Sunday, and reported to him that the graduate assistant had seen Jerry Sandusky in the Lasch Building showers fondling or doing something of a sexual nature to a young boy.”

That is pretty specific.

Yep, those names were probably on the ‘unrecoverable’ hard drive. Gricar probably was told this is far bigger than PSU or JoePa and that’s why he dropped the charges.

Also Curley knew and if Sandusky got busted all the PSU donors would dry up.

If this rumor is true it explains why they couldn’t get rid of Sandusky.

Continuing to spew fake piety nonsense impresses no one.

I'm not in the position of desiring to impress anyone. Heck, I'm a Jew and know only of the New Testament and the words of Christ through outside study. It amazes me the extent to which they are selectively applied.

Let's assume we form lynch mobs based on media reporting about horrid subject matter - which this definitely is. What happened to the Duke Lacrosse team - they were all guilty right? Herman Cain is guily of unwanted sexual advances on multiple women, right? Sally Clark killed her own child right? What about Freddie Pitts and Wilburt Lee, Randall Dale Adams, Juan Johnson, or James Woodard? The initial indications were that they were guilty as hell - let's execute on that right?!?

A rush to judgement serves no purpose other than our own desire to feel moral and it is truly a self-serving reaction. I am sickened by the abuse of children, and I know judgement will be served upon the guilty. In that knowledge I am comforted.

And the DA that went didn't go after him vanished in 2005 and was declared dead the other day....

“Went after’ was indeed the wrong description. I should have said ‘dealt with the case’.

Thanks for the correction.

It was only reported to him as part of the chain of command. Paterno did report the transgression within the university chain of command when it was reported to him. It would literally take 10 to 15 minutes to get to the top of the chain and be reported to the police. The question is where did it break in the chain. That is the guy responsible. Must everyone in the chain reporting something they did not see or could testify to in court go directly to the police? Is Paterno to be held accountable for his superiors even though he did not witness the act.I think many are being too hard on the guy

This was a FELONY. (Do you want that spelled out for you?)

Place yourself in a situation where, say, you are a High school coach.

Say your very credible 28 yo frosh coach comes to you and tells you that someone with lockerroom access -- say the local sports writer...is somebody he saw commit murder in the lockerroom showers & took pains to dispose of the evidence, including the body.

What do you & the eyewitness do? You call the police, right?

Not if you're a would-be coach & a coach @ Penn State.

OK, so let's emulate their actions for a moment. You're the High school. You've found out about this murder. The frosh coach's father called you; and now you're hearing it face to face the next day. So this felony's been committed. An urgent situation. You don't wait, right?

Not if you're the head coach @ Penn State. Then you wait another 24 hours to report it face to face to your superiors.

Then over time you as the HS coach begin to wonder why, "No headlines re: this murder." Why hasn't the alleged murderer been arrested. What? Do you never queery the McQueary guy on this? (Your frosh coach?)

What? You just let weeks, months, and years roll by...and you don't care who the victim was? You don't care that the murderer got away with it? You don't care that the murderer may murder again?

You just stay all snug & buggle in your conspiracy of silence?

You and so many posters with your "I'll do the barely legal" approach to ethics ESPECIALLY IN THIS CONTEXT OF MULTIPLE FELONIES is sickening, repulsive, horrific and worse!

You and other "keep forever silent to the authorities on child rape attacks" disgust me!

And it’s such a great idea, a very forward-thinking, liberating, enlightened progressive idea to allow practicing ‘gays’ in the Boy Scouts. After all, ‘gays’ can be trusted to keep their hands off of boys-—just look at Sandusky as a great example! (extreme sarcasm)

And in those days good will be called evil and evil good. And by extension of the demonic inversion: normal will be abnormal, healthy will be diseased, sanity will be insanity, courage will be cowardice, upright will be bent, and straight will be twisted.

Sounds like America, doesn’t it?

One person I think should be in a whole lot of legal trouble is John McQueary (Mike’s Dad)who as a medical doctor I believe is a mandated reporter but then again he was good friends with Sandusky.

Actually, that isn't quite true. Sandusky is on record as having admitted to the 1998 incident. He went to the mother's house and, while police listened from another room said that he hugged the boy while naked in the shower and that he knew it was wrong.

Why Gricar chose not to prosecute is a mystery.

I really don’t get it. What kind of person witnesses the rape of a child and walks away letting the rape continue? That is really effed up. McQueary has not been fired. He needs to be fired immediately. I wonder, does he have any young sons of his own now? How would he feel if someone witnessed the act of them being brutally raped and walked away? I just don’t get it.

Here is an article from the Penn State Daily Collegian, from 10 October.

http://www.collegian.psu.edu/archive/2011/10/06/mounting_nittany.aspx

Yeah, this is a shocking article, but it is VERY indicitive of how something like the current scandal could have happened, and been allowed to be covered up, at Penn State.

Officials at Penn State created an environment that ENCOURAGED perversion, and that no sex was wrong.

It was the stated goal of President Spanier to become the most Gay-Friendly Campus in America, and Penn St. had the first All-GAY fraternity in America. (I’ll bet they have an interesting Hell Week)

With Adminstration-sponsored events like “QueerFest”, or the ‘Become a Lesbian for a day’ “C##tFest”, they CREATED an atmosphere where the perversions of a sicko like Sandusky found not only a home, but acceptence, and a staff willing to cover it up, for the sake of the MONEY the Football Program dragged in.

Penn State FIRED it’s 27 yr National Championship winning Women’s basketball coach, Rene Portland,in 2006, for telling a parent she would not tolerate Homosexuality on her team, claiming she created a “Hostile, discriminitive environment”

When people ask HOW something like this could have happened, and how it could be covered up so readily by the administration of the University, show them this.

In this kind of an atmosphere, can you hardly be surprised that sexual abuse of children would go on?

“I really don’t get it. What kind of person witnesses the rape of a child and walks away letting the rape continue?”

A person buried in an almost totalitarian, top-down controlled environment of go-along to get-along politics, where free sex is encouraged by an administration willing to dangle carrots to maintain the status quo.

And mostly funded by YOUR TAX DOLLARS, also known as OPM (Other People’s Money)

Destroying the economy of the entire county, in the process.
Always follow the money, as it leads to the politics.

Yeah. I’m with ya. Who cares about “crimes being done in general”. As long as it doesn’t impact me and you. If innocent folks are victimized by a general situation we know about, but we don’t about “specifically”, too bad for them.

I understand McQueary has two daughters. The article I read did not specify ages but one has to wonder what they will think of their father’s cowardly actions. Someone should tell those girls to buy a gun ‘cause you kids are on your own if someone is brutally anal raping you.

Your wasting your breath.

This case has been investigated, the trial is complete, and we are at the execution phase now.

Hang ‘em high boys!

Shoot straight!

If we’re wrong........God will sort it out.

Long live the deep thinkers at FR!
