It makes no sense at all to fire Paterno and keep McQueary.

Paterno was the former Athletic Director at PSU and knew what the school's legal responsibility. McQueary, at the time, was a graduate asssistance who wasn't aware of the school's legal responsibility.

Also, Paterno was involved with the retirement negotiations that gave Sandusky emeritus status at PSU. McQueary was not.
