A Thanksgiving meal for TEN for less than $50 bucks?!! Not around my house! Turkey, homemade stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, green bean casserole, macaroni and cheese, corn, rolls, pumpkin pie with Cool Whip, apple pie, and a cherry one thrown in for good measure. The good thing about it is leftovers for several days.
lol...a bottle of Glenlivet will run me about $40 alone. It’s the holidays - I treat myself..lol
It’s the chestnuts for the stuffing that set me back the most. Last year they went for over $3.50 a pound.I buy at least 3 pounds.
He got one a couple weeks ago. Most years he gets 3-5, even though there is no limit in my county on anterless deer. Limit is two on bucks.
The season is more than 3 months long here.
Cut farm subsidies.
I think we will be paying about $50 and that’s for appetizers, salad, pop, and tableware. (our share) Bet our total family outlay will be close to $250. Ten people.
What’s REALLY difficult is getting the spouse to understand that there has been a huge rise in food prices, but our fixed income is well...fixed. He thinks I’m just being cheap. I’m trying to keep our heads above water.
It’s going to be difficult to celebrate Thanksgiving this year.
All of the turkeys are in Washington, DC.
22 lb turkey cost me a little over $8. HEB has a free 12 lb turkey if you buy their spiral sliced ham. I did (for Christmas) and got a credit for the 12 lb one on my 21 lb turkey I bought.
CNBC reported this hurriedly yesterday going into a station break, but said it was $49.20 per person, not for ten. I figured they were pouring some pretty good wine at their table.
I’m getting a free-range heirloom bird at $2.75 per pound. Sounds crazy expensive until one bites into it. Best turkey I’ve ever eaten.
One Thanksgiving, my husband ran a half-marathon in the morning, then he decided to make pies from scratch, THEN he decided to get the turkey in the oven. Long before the turkey was done, the rest of us had eaten the vegetables, drunk all the wine, and gone to bed.
Lots of leftover that year.
My family is mumbling about not wanting turkey this year. Maybe we’ll have bean casserole instead - more money for wine!
Where’s the FR guy that ridicules anyone that says that food and energy costs are not factored into the cost of living / inflation rate?
Has that rate reflected this 13% increase in food costs?
Well......eat a unicorn......I guess that’s OK now.....evidently we have unicorn farmers.....damnit......spilled my whiskey bottle.....unicorns-the other white meat.....filthy stinkin’ cannibals.
Has the price of turnips gone up?
here's a clue though....buy turkeys at this time of year....they'll never be as cheap ....I still have one in my freezer from last year...

I checked with Ram’s Horn restaurant. Turkey dinner will be same price as last year. :-)
