After week of turmoil, it's gameday at Penn State

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) -- The Nebraska and Penn State players gathered at midfield before the game, kneeling together for a long moment in a quiet stadium. Sometimes, the most powerful statements are the simplest. A child sex-abuse scandal involving former assistant Jerry Sandusky has rocked Penn State to its core, cost Joe Paterno his job and prompted a week's worth of soul-searching. Saturday's game was a combination of pep rally, cleansing and tribute, fans and players balancing their wish to show love for Penn State and Paterno while also wanting to support victims of abuse. "This has been one of the saddest weeks in the history of Penn State and my heart goes out to those who have been victimized. I share your anger and sorrow," new school president Rod Erickson said in a video played in the first quarter.

Unreported in all this is the fact that Sandusky is next door neighbor to Paterno, and has been a 30 year friend. The stinking pile of excrement revealed, is like an iceberg. We haven’t seen the worst of this case IMO.

It’s fortunate for Penn St. that Nebraska fans have a reputation as among the nicest of major football programs. Not to say they don’t want their team to win but they aren’t the total jerks that some fan bases (cough, Ohio State, cough) are.

As I saw the mass prayer huddle in the middle of the field, I couldn’t help but think of all the ACLU lawyers and atheists recoiling in horror, feeling “coerced” to pray. Oh, the shame of it all!

It’s just not right, a lot of meaningless symbolism-over-substance “We feel for the victims, now get on with the game.”

I guarantee, when PSU travels to Columbus or Madison, it won’t be so nice.

That’s what I’m thinking. They ‘away games’ aren’t going to be like this.

The ESPN coverage today has been nauseating, imo. We are all supposed to feel PSU’s pain. It’s like they think it’s time to forget about the whole sickening scandal and move on.

They are already losing recruits right and left....and the NCAA should allow there players to transfer without having to sit out.

Why punish the kids who practice so hard just because of one homosexual predator? String him up from a tree and get on with the Bowl games!

This is NOT about football, it is about a HOMOSEXUAL PREDATOR! The lesson is being lost. This is why, despite million-dollar lawsuits that the Boy Scouts keep fags out. They CANNOT be trusted around same-sex children.

WHY??? This didn’t happen to any players! Maybe they want to leave because JoePa isn’t there anymore?

Go Nebraska.

Go to Hell Penn State (the school, not the players, students or faculty unrelated to this scandal).
