Cult! A Classic False Claim
Mormon Defense League ^ | October 9, 2011 | Mormon Defense League

Some public figures have labeled the “Mormon” church as a “cult”. Most recently, ABC News reported that Dallas Pastor Robert Jeffress applied such a label in an interview following a political gathering where Jeffress introduced a political rival to Mormon candidate Mitt Romney.

Use of such a term to describe Mormonism is highly offensive to members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. “Cult” carries the connotation of dangerous, even violent groups whose beliefs are irrational and whose practices are immoral and lawless (Koresh and the Branch Davidians, Heaven’s Gate, Aum Shinrikyo, and The People’s Temple are all prominent examples) . The term cannot be applied to Mormons unless it is so broadly defined that its use could be applied to virtually any religious body.

Like racist language, the use of the word “cult” to describe a religion usually tells us very little about the religion, but a great deal about the person using the word. In short, it tells us only that the person using the label “cult” doesn’t like the religion in question, or thinks it is illegitimate. Bryan Wilson, a Fellow of All Souls College, Oxford, and a noted sociologist of minority religions noted:

Jesus is the only way; the true Jesus, i.e. GOD. I didn't write the rules, Saundra. It's very clear in the Bible from beginning to end. Jesus is present at creation. That doesn't square with your teachings. Your words are surely correct but it must be the Jesus of the Trinity. It's plain and simple and any other belief is false.

I am sorry it is offensive to you. That is not the intent. I am compelled to speak the truth when it comes to Chrisitanity. To due less is irresponsible.

I don’t know that the Mormons have ever tried to hide some of the more eccentric views of their religion either.

Ask a "Temple worthy" Mormon to show you all the secret handshakes and signs he was shown to get into the Celestial Kingdom (yeah, you need to know those, or you can't get in) and have him show you the secret symbols on his Magic underwear.

“Jesus is present at creation”

We believe that Jesus Christ is the Great Jehovah of the Old Testament and the Savior & Redeemer of the New Testament. I am sorry you misunderstand my faith.

Yes He did SD, but the mormon Jesus is unable to save you from your sins -

ALMA 11:37: “And I say unto you again that he cannot save them in their sins; for I cannot deny his word, and he hath said that no unclean thing can inherit the kingdom of heaven; therefore, how can ye be saved, except ye inherit the kingdom of heaven? Therefore, ye cannot be saved in your sins.”

Remember SD you must be completely clean of all ungodliness BEFORE his grace will do anything for you.

MORONI 10:32: “Yea, come unto Christ, and be perfected in him, and deny yourselves of all ungodliness; and if ye shall deny yourselves of all ungodliness, and love God with all your might, mind and strength, then is his grace sufficient for you, that by his grace ye may be perfect in Christ; and if by the grace of God ye are perfect in Christ, ye can in nowise deny the power of God.”

So are you free from ALL ungodliness SD?

And of course it is ONLY after ALL YOU CAN DO isn’t it SD.

The mormon Jesus cannot save. You’ve been told you need to turn to the REAL Jesus SD. No amount of lipstick on a pig can change the mormon Jesus into the real one.

IF Jesus is my advocate? What in the world. There is only one Gospel of Jesus Christ - He suffered and died for me -

Then why do you accept the book of Mormon when Paul specifically mentioned to not accept another gospel?

He took my sins upon Himself to save me.

If that is what you believe then why do you need to be Temple worthy?

When He was on the Cross, I was on His mind.

I wonder what Jesus thought of Joseph Smith, who once stated he was better than Christ?

This was Heavenly Father’s Plan of Salvation and the Holy Ghost ever lives to lead us, guide us, comfort us, and help us return to our Father in Heaven.

Really, that's all you believe in?

If Jesus were to ask you, do you believe in celestial marriages, baptizing the dead and wearing temple garments, your answer is going to be no? Well, then if that's the case, good for you. Its about time you dropped that silly mormon, non biblical nonsense.

Jesus Christ died for me to save me from my sins and I love Him.

Did Jesus preach of celestial marriages?

What business is it of yours?

2 Corinthians 11

Paul and the False Apostles

1 I hope you will put up with me in a little foolishness. Yes, please put up with me! 2 I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy. I promised you to one husband, to Christ, so that I might present you as a pure virgin to him. 3 But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent’s cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ. 4 For if someone comes to you and preaches a Jesus other than the Jesus we preached, or if you receive a different spirit from the Spirit you received, or a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it easily enough. 5 I do not think I am in the least inferior to those “super-apostles.”[a]

6 I may indeed be untrained as a speaker, but I do have knowledge. We have made this perfectly clear to you in every way. 7 Was it a sin for me to lower myself in order to elevate you by preaching the gospel of God to you free of charge? 8 I robbed other churches by receiving support from them so as to serve you. 9 And when I was with you and needed something, I was not a burden to anyone, for the brothers who came from Macedonia supplied what I needed. I have kept myself from being a burden to you in any way, and will continue to do so. 10 As surely as the truth of Christ is in me, nobody in the regions of Achaia will stop this boasting of mine. 11 Why? Because I do not love you? God knows I do!

12 And I will keep on doing what I am doing in order to cut the ground from under those who want an opportunity to be considered equal with us in the things they boast about. 13 For such people are false apostles, deceitful workers, masquerading as apostles of Christ. 14 And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. 15 It is not surprising, then, if his servants also masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve.

No- by the teaching of the Christ as handed down to his Apostles and their successors. The Church predates the writings of the New Testament. It is the Church that selected what books constituted the New Testament. It is the Church that refused to include the apocryphal “gospels” in the New Testament, it is the Church in the Nicene Creed that formally acknowledged Christ to be True Man and True God and condensed into a creed the central truths of Christianity.

There is no misunderstanding. You don’t believe in the Triune God. You don’t believe that Jesus is God. If you are claiming differently, please enlighten me.

Simply answer this straight out “yes” or “no” without any words designed to distract from the point. Do you believe that Jesus is God; the one and only true God? Yes or no? If you can’t give a one word answer it says it all. Do you believe in the Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit)? Yes or no?

It’s “red or yellow, black or white”.

Nothing in there about worshiping the doctrines of demons.

If all Christians had and lived the Love of Christ like the Tenboom Family what a wonderful world this would be!

If the FANCHER party had been allowed to pass thru UTAH; this world WOULD be much better!

If you are claiming differently, please enlighten me.

You will either get mormon gobbly-gook or silence. SD is not too strong on mormon theology, so I would expect the silence.

...and by whose definition the Tradition of men, or the umpteen vacillating council of political clergies from Nicene council down through the ages?

No; like THIS:

Inasmuch as laws have been enacted by Congress forbidding plural marriage...
I hereby declare my intention to submit to those laws..."

~ Wilford Woodruff, 4th LDS President

Sorry, GOD; but we just will NOT follow what YOU told us any longer.

Now on the other hand I would not expect anything less from a spirit that dwells in falsely accusations!

"I am a true believer in the gospel of Jesus Christ, I do not believe everything that is now being taught and practiced by Brigham Young.

I do not care who hears it. It is my last word - it is so.

I believe he is leading the people astray, downward to destruction.

But I believe in the gospel that was taught in its purity by Joseph Smith, in former days.

I have my reasons for it.

"I studied to make this man's [Brigham Young] will my pleasure for thirty years.

See, now, what I have come to this day!

"I have been sacrificed in a cowardly, dastardly manner." (Lee enunciated this sentence with marked emphasis.)
