Cain: God convinced me to run for president
CBS News ^ | November 12, 2011 | Lindsey Boerma

ATLANTA, Ga. - Herman Cain, whose campaign could use some redemption in the wake of a sexual harassment scandal, told a crowd of young Republicans on Saturday that God convinced him to run for president and that he "prayed and prayed and prayed" about it.

The Republican contender made no mention of the allegations from former subordinates at the National Restaurant Association. But his comments here were accented with more than the usual references to his faith and his calling to politics.

"I prayed and prayed and prayed. I'm a man of faith, I had to do a lot of praying for this one, more praying than I'd ever done before in my life," Cain told a crowd of more than 100 at the Young Republican National Federation, an event hosted by the Georgia Young Republicans at the Westin Peachtree Plaza. "And when I finally realized that it was God saying that this is what I needed to do, I was like Moses: 'You've got the wrong man, Lord. Are you sure?'"

Once he made the decision to run, the former chief executive of Godfather's Pizza said, "I did not look back. And one of the misperceptions that some people have (is) that I'm not in this to win it. I'm in this to win it, or I wouldn't be in it! I'm not going anywhere!"

Cain has repeatedly said in recent days he will stay in the race in spite of the swirl of accusations that have tarnished his campaign and halted his upward momentum in national polls. Four women who worked at the NRA claim that Cain sexually harassed them, and one of them, Sharon Bialek of Chicago, said he roughly grabbed her in a parked car in 1997 and propositioned her for sex.

With a Republican debate focused on foreign policy on tap for Saturday evening, Cain talked about the need to replace a "foggy foreign policy" with a reincarnation of the Reagan doctrine of "peace through strength and clarity." He also said he would "stop giving money to our enemies."

The debate among the eight major Republican candidates is at 8 p.m. and is hosted by National Journal and CBS News.

You're changing the subject, troll.

The question was raised as to why some troll attacked Cain for saying God led him to run (after prayer), upon which Perrywinkles joined in the attack...nothwithstanding that Perry and/or his wife had made the same claim.

A Perrywinkle asked why Perry got such grief over the claim: and the answer is that the claim about Perry was first floated by his wife who has a number of times given every indication that she is the power in the family, and that she enjoys the perks, privileges, and trappings of power and comfort. Which leads to suspicions about her motivations in egging / urging Perry to run for President: especially after his claims that he was only going to stay Governor of Texas.

These elements are summed up humorously in the T-shirt.

But nobody has ever even suggested that Cain is whipped.

Cheers!

Gingrich is a much better conservative than Herman Cain.

Real Conservatives don't have three marriages. Real Conservatives do not ally themselves with Nancy Pelosi for ANY reason. Real Conservatives don't endorse DeDe Scozzafava. Real Conservatives don't try to tell Detroit how to build cars. Real Conservatives don't partner up with Al Sharpton and Arne Duncan to push federal education programs. Real Conservatives don't favor government health care mandates.

I know that you're a paid RNC troll. You might want to call your masters and alert them that your cover has been blown on FR.

That’s for your input bucko ! Cain is a talk-show conservative like Sean Hannity or Savage. He says all kind of stuff, but has no political record to show for it. Never had to vote, never had to sign a bill. Zippo. Nothing.

Gingrich is a real-world Conservative with real world accomplishments. You don’t have to agree with everything he’s done, but at least he’s had some skin in the game of politics.

Conservatism is more than debate society rhetoric.

C’mon bucko. No need to lie about me. Link me up where I’ve said I’m a woman.

Oops. Fail on your part.

Thanks for pinging your bud too. Birds of a feather.

If you think top of the ladder CEO experience bears no relation to politics, you aren’t too bright.

OH! let me try...

REAL conservatives try usurping parental rights

REAL conservatives have a tantrum when legislatures stop them

REAL conservatives put Mexican education over American education if you live in the wrong 49 states

REAL conservatives campaigned for AlGore then lie about his GWBS

REAL conservatives think fences only work in cities

REAL conservatives question your morality

REAL conservatives speak to racist groups

REAL conservatives have no problem with Islam

/Perry supporter logic

Right start out the debate with a little name calling that should help!

When Cain comes out and says God has led him toward his decision its a beautiful and moving moment. When Perrys wife says the same about Perry he is derided and his wife insulted. If you are to juvenile to notice the double standard thats on you not me. I was asked to prove by another poster that that had happened. At that point I provided the link showing that yes it had indeed happened.

Why doesn’t Cains wife come out and tell us all about her wonderful husband and how great she thinks he would be for the country? Its probably because in the past Herman has not been able to convince her that voting republican would be in her best interest and if you can’t convince your own spouse good luck in convincing everyone else. Maybe Mr. Cain would be interested in a shirt with a cat and a whip.;^)

Considering you were outed in one obvious lie with your own words on this thread, who knows what to believe about you.

Buc says you posted you were a woman, now you say you’re a dude..

You need to start being honest. Your cred sucks.

I have actually read mixed reviews on his performance at Godfather’s, but I was consider him in general a good CEO. Godfather’s was a failing pizza chain and he stopped the bleeding there, but they never attained the level of success that the top tier pizza chains enjoy.

Romney, of course, has been mega-successful in business for a variety of reasons. Using the CEO criteria, clearly Romney would perform better as President.

Me personally, though, prefer the policial experience of Perry, Gingrich and Paul.

He spilled the information? What information? That he was the one who leaked to Politico? If that’s what you’re saying, I missed that.

It was Wilson’s remark that there had been “payoffs” for sexual harassment at NRA. That was what started the whole thing. wilson was wrong, there were no payoffs for sexual harassment, there were employees terminated for unfounded claims and paid thier severance.
