Records from The Second Mile show that the organization asks staff members and volunteers to sign a statement affirming they have never been suspected of child abuse. They must also submit a criminal background check. Officials from the Second Mile didn't respond to a question about whether any such checks were ever done on Sandusky.
The Second Mile said in a statement that it has done "everything in our power to cooperate with law-enforcement officials." But Pennsylvania Attorney General Linda Kelly said that during the grand jury investigation there was an "uncooperative atmosphere" from some officials at Penn State and The Second Mile. And Gov. Tom Corbett said he believes there will be an investigation into what Second Mile officials knew.
Deborah Small, an associate professor of marketing and psychology at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, said she doesn't think The Second Mile will survive the scandal.
"There's too much moral hypocrisy going on," she said. "No one's going to want to be associated with them."
Late last week, The Second Mile removed the list of honorary directors from its website.

Expect more of these conflict of interest scenarios... the whole State of Pennsylvania should recuse itself from this widening case.
The Second Mile has it’s tentacles around seemingly everyone.
Since she’s on the board of Sandusky’s Second Mile, shouldn’t she have recused herself from ruling on his release because of the potential for a conflict of interest?
The more I read about this the more it seems like there is a huge tangled web just lurking out of view (for now).
If this web is as big as it seems to be, the only ones capable of conducting a legit investigation would be the feds, but what are the chances that Zero will permit that to happen, let alone order it to happen?
Don't yet know if she's on the board. There are probably thousands of volunteers.

I notice the article says the “counsel” for Second Mile, who was involved in the investigation of the boy in the shower incident, was also “counsel” for the university.
I’m beginning to think this is one big pedophile ring.
SHOCKING PENN STATE RUMOR: Jerry Sandusky 'Pimped Out Young Boys To Rich Donors'
Sandusky made sure he was the only prospector in that gold mine
I find it more than interesting that the annual report features pictures of younger girls rather than boys in an estimated 9:1 ratio. I suspect this was by design.
See `Special Events’ (shudder)
“While we are providing our childrens programming as scheduled, The Second Mile has decided, out of respect and compassion for all impacted by the allegations from the Attorney Generals office, to postpone The Second Miles Reverse Drawing, which was to be held November 11, 2011. In past years, this has been a fun-filled and exciting evening, and we cannot imagine holding this event in the wake of the recent allegations, which have brought shock, sadness and concern to all associated with The Second Mile organization.”
Unsecured? WTH? Now we know why he is out on bond, friends in high places. I hope she doesn’t think she is going to handle the trial? Unbelievable.
This is yet another reason I distrust most charitable organizations.
The Second Mile is starting to sound like a NAMBLA front and how useful would it be to have a judge and DA or other bigwigs on your side if your doing something like that?
Sounds like a major conflict of interest to me!
Bingo!
Gees. Football and university campuses as pedophilia centers, with shared services and personnel.
What a concept.
