The focus on the Penn State scandal has been almost entirely on the dramatic events of 2002, when graduate assistant Mike McQueary barged in on the rape of "Victim 2." In fact it was decisions in 1998 and 1999 that revealed the university's priorities, and turned what would have been a tragedy for Jerry Sandusky into a tragedy for Joe Paterno.
On July 1, 1999, Sandusky, then fifty-five, announced that he was retiring as defensive coordinator at the end of the season. "It was a decision that shocked Penn State fans, coaches and players alike," wrote the Daily Collegian.
There was at least one coach who was not shocked. Two months earlier, Joe Paterno had told Sandusky that he would not be Paterno's successor.
We can now guess why Joepa gave his defensive coach this piece of bad news.

Joe Paterno and the PSU administration HAD to know about the 1998 report. That report is going to get more PSU officials indicted. It’s just incredible that they allowed this to go on for so long.
I am convinced the entire coaching staff, at least, know that Sandusky was an active sodomite predator.
And they let it happen, in front of them, as he brought new boys onto the sidelines as part of their grooming.
They should all be fired and blacklested, from President Spanier to the lowest asst coach.
This writer is a nincompoop. “Tragedy” for Paterno and Sandusky? What about the little boys, you idiot.
Hiring Spanier was when Penn State first did something wrong.
Yes you are right. The anger and hatred should be exclusively directed at the homo Sandusky.

Could be all the homos and bisexuals and enablers have not been “outed” Yet..
I have heard of cabals of these Vampires.. in other places..
Heinous Malefactors beyond a average persons belief system... parasites...
Sandusky couldn’t have gotten away with it, without help from some very powerful people.
That had Sandusky recruiting high schoolers for the program as recently as April of this year. It’s been up on Drudge all weekend. I can’t believe how little attention it’s received.
But did Sandusky actually receive offers from any other school after 1998? If not, and given the deafening silence on this whole affair from the NCAA, is it possible that the NCAA and Penn State reached an agreement under which Sandusky would remain in Happy Valley, no other school would be allowed to hire him and Penn State would keep an eye on him? Just wondering.
I don’t think the writer was trying to excuse Paterno and Sandusky, or belittle the suffering of the victims. This will always blight Paterno’s legacy. But his accomplishments were very impressive, off the field as well as on, and I think it’s fair to call it a tragedy—Aristotle would—when an otherwise exemplary guy makes a fatal mistake.
I agree, and furthermore feel in my gut that the evident "Gay is OK" mentality and pedophilia acceptance is vastly more widespread than just Penn State. The exposure of the Penn State episode is just the tip of the iceberg in the academia world. It's all part of the PC attitude that has metastasized thruout our culture.
But as Barry Switzer pointed out, it’s very hard to keep secrets amongst the coaching fraternity in college sports....there’s a reason other universities didn’t reach out to Sandusky.
And those who knew, and chose not to do anything about it. If what is in the indictment is true, that includes Paterno and others who worked with Sandusky on a daily basis, yet made the overt decision to protect the university and the $91 million revenue stream from college football, ahead of the welfare of children.
We don’t need to jump to conclusions either way, but others could very well deserve our anger and hatred. All it takes for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.
Would he not have been paid to do that? He still had the ‘blessing’ and agreement of PSU athletics to do that.
One "Oh, shit" cancels ten attaboys.
This is a good question. It seems to me you might only publicize the offers made to you while you were still in the market or wanted to impress your employer with your value. Once Sandusky decided he was happy w/ Second Mile and the boys, there’d be no reason to tell anyone if he got a call.
But it’s also possible that lots of other people, at other colleges, knew about his proclivities. That’s scary.
The school followed up with an offer to at least one HS linebacker he visited. That suggests it was coordinated through the athletic department.
I’m sure we’ll hear more about this in the coming week.
Jerry Sandusky Was Offered The Head Coaching Job At The University Of Virginia In 2002

It is widespread. And now with the teaching of gayness in the schools from Kindergarten on up, it seems to be teaching the kids to ‘accept’ it whenever someone is making their move. I tried to be gentle with my comments. At the very least it is going to desensitize the child and cause them to think this is just another choice, instead of being heinous and wrong.
