The only remarkable thing about the OWS'ers in this regard is how far off (not in a good way) the percentages are. OWS seems to attract the scum and bottom-feeding sludge of society.
I wouldn't expend one minute of police time investigating crimes within the OWS encampments. When the OWS'ers are ready to rejoin society, respect and obey societal norms for behavior in public, then they can enjoy the protections of that same society. Until then, they're on their own as far as I'm concerned. They don't get to pick and choose what laws they want the police to enforce based on what's convenient for them at the time. Consider it a hard lesson in real life, outside the protection of their parents homes and University's ivory towers.
