Gingrich: ‘I’m a genuine, intellectual conservative’ (gives his ideas on illegals and the border)

CARROLL — As he surged to the top of two national polls Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich spent nearly three hours at the Santa Maria Winery in Carroll on Monday, speaking with voters, taking questions, signing books and screening a movie he co-developed celebrating Pope John Paul II.

Gingrich also conducted a 10-minute interview with The Carroll Daily Times Herald and La Prensa, an Iowa Spanish-language newspaper, before going on air nationally with Fox News’ Sean Hannity from a makeshift, temporary studio...

....La Prensa asked Gingrich’s reaction to an often-repeated line from Cain about constructing a border fence with Mexico so that it can electrocute immigrants, and possibly even snare them in an associated moat stocked with alligators.

“It was a bad idea,” Gingrich said.

He added, “I hope he was joking. I’d like to think he was joking.”

Gingrich then turned to his own immigration plans, calling for control of the border in a way that is “human and practical.”

“I’m working on an immigration program which is firm but at the same time has a human aspect to it that I think most Hispanic Americans would appreciate,” Gingrich said.

Earlier, in a question-and-answer session with voters in the winery, Gingrich said he wanted to impose severe penalties for employers who hired undocumented workers. Moreover, he put forward a plan modeled on the Selective Service System used by the military in World War II in which local committees of citizens could help determine the immigration status of a city’s illegal residents based on factors like how long they’ve lived in the area, family roots and contributions socially and in business.

Gingrich said rhetoric about deporting all illegal immigrants isn’t realistic.

“I think it’s very unlikely the American people are going to break up families,” Gingrich said...

I think you meant "peasant." Here's a funny way of remembering that the pheasant is the one with the feathers:

Who do I like?

Or who do I want?

I want a genuine pro-God, pro-life, pro-family, pro-gun, pro-oil, pro-small government, big defense, patriotic Christian conservative. That automatically rules out Giuliani, Romney, Paul, et al.

I LIKE Sarah Palin the best, but the elite progressive RINO GOP establishment joined hands with the God-hating liberals to make it all but impossible for her to run as a Republican. With Palin out, I’ll “settle for” conservatives Bachmann or Cain. If the libs and their RINO partners successfully torpedo both of them, it’ll be between RINOs Perry and Gingrich. In this case, Perry would be the lesser of two weevils, IMHO. Though, watching a debate between Obama and Gingrich would be amusing.

It may be the end of FR should he get the nomination, but no way in hell will I ever support or vote for the abortionist, homosexualist, global warmingist, gun-grabbing, socialist healthcare pushing, big government mandate loving, flop-flopping, lying liberal progressive Keynesian, Mitt Romney.

Yes - a lot would return to Mexico. All the liberal draws to begin the dependency push of illegals into the LIBERAL voting block keeps bearing fruit. It MUST stop!

Re E-Verify. It puts a terrible burden on small businesses. It is highly unreliable and has caught people who were legal and missed many who are illegal. It is a bandaid NOT the solution. There have been TOO many “fixes” and laws that are not enforced or don’t work.

Oh, go ahead. Say “Bachmann”. I love her. I gave her money when she was just thinking about running. I went to a lunch and sat with her and her husband.

“Gingrich said rhetoric about deporting all illegal immigrants isn’t realistic.”

While I don't know the context of him saying that....I have some thoughts on it.

The idea that we can deport ALL illegal aliens...is impossible. I agree with him.

We have screwed up for so long with illegal's....that we have kids that grew up here illegally...from very young ages, that are now in their 20's, heck probably 30's, maybe 40's!!!. They are Americanized. Many don't speak their parents language.

Yeah...it's a screwed up mess. And our "leaders" are to blame...and Newt takes some of that too.

FWIW-

Newt Gingrich is an intellectual conservative. He is definatly not a faithful conservative.

Conservatives are dumb but not Newt.

I do not want another president who cannot make these simple commitments:

“I will not support amnesty in any form or by any other name.”

“I will build an effective border fence on our southern border.”

“I will stop illegal immigration of all types.”

“I will refuse visas or entrance by other means to those who are trying to enter America to give birth to an “anchor baby.”

We’re on the same page. I’m for Cain, and Perry is a distant second. Bachmann’s kind of scared me off, lately, otherwise she would be my second favorite.

What the Hell is an "intellectual conservative"?

Just another name for a socialist. Just like 'compassionate conservative' George 'Duh-bya' Bush.

This is why I don’t want Gingrich. His soul is liberal. You probably would be pleased to know that while I don’t trust Perry or even really LIKE Perry, I would accept him over Gingrich. And yes, I prefer Cain over both, on the whole...

Same thing as “compassionate conservative.” Does that imply conservatives in general are NOT compassionate?

It's a lot of things but the tiny number who use the instate tuition is so small that it is NOT why they are coming into the U.S.

How much effect do you think Bush's housing programs had on the influx of illegal aliens? (US/Mexico Partnership for Prosperity Agreement, New Alliance Task Force, American Dream Down Payment Act, increased spending for Fannie/Freddie, relaxed banking regulations, US Social Security benefits for illegals, SHAMNESTY!)
