Seems to me the ships I've served aboard had salt water flushing systems...fresh water was needed for truly important things like launching aircraft off the pointy end with steam powered catapults.

On ship, the toilet plumbing systems use salt water, which is free for the taking. They’re not running fresh water through the johns.

Never had a Problem using the Head on the USS Constellation on our 69-70 Vietnam Tour,worked just fine,none of the new Fangled MODERN Technology,Enviornmentally Designed Im sure
