Peshawar In Pakistan, where many seek government benefits for any physical disability, there is an entire family of blind people living in Peshawar without receiving any benefits from the government. These blind family members should be recognized as ideal examples of Pakistani citizenship.
Qari Asad Ullah one of the elder brothers of the remarkable family works as Hafiz QURAN in a private school in Peshawar, where he earns 2500 rupees (27 dollars) per month and also another 2500 rupees teaching QURAN to students later in the day. His family expenses are about 54 dollars monthly but their financial resources are not always enough to meet expenses.
Qari Asad is a brave person who has been blind from birth, but he didnt loose his courage. He learned QURAN in just 5 years It was not easy for me, as I am blind, but I didnt lose courage. God gives me spirit, so daily I learned in Maddrassa and later at home I exercised and through the use of a type recorder I listened to the QURAN and memorized." said Qari Asad in his interviews.
Qari Asad said it is not easy work as blind teacher in Pakistani society. "People comment on me but never have I felt sad, because I am religious teacher and QURAN gives me calm."
He further said, "It is not easy living on 54 dollars a month in current scenario of Pakistan, because sometimes electricity bill tenses me. Last month 3000 rupees bills of electricity I pay. After paying the bill I dont have money for the treatment of my 2 year old daughter who was at that time sick, and because of lack of treatment she went into a coma.
The Elder brother of the blind brothers and sisters Qari Asad Ullah said that, "I have three daughters and one son. My son is facing the same problem of blindness and doctors said that my son, who is 4 year old Hameed, will be blind. I wish I had money for the treatment of my 4 year old son. I didnt see the world light, but I want that my all children could enjoy it."
The 18 year old Alamgir younger brother Qari Asad Ullah, who is also blind, is always at home, and has a wish that they could have their own home.
The sister of blind brother Abida never leaves her home because of blindness, and never gets to play games with other girls. She is active in his routine work. Even though she cannot see anything she always washes the clothing for her family.
The mother of these blind children, Zahida Bibi, is from the Charsadda district and now her age is 56 years. After marrying, she relocated to Peshawar with her husband. Her first four children all died from hunger, but after those deaths God gave her 5 more children, each of them blind. She works as a house maid in different homes. It is her wish that she have her own home and her blind children could all live together at home.
But it does show a certain lack of charity on the part of local wealthy families.
