Newt Gingrich: Only worked one hour a month giving advice to Freddie Mac
Wapo ^ | 111811 | Dan Eggen

Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich is stepping up his defense of his lucrative consulting career, in part by arguing that he didn’t do very much to earn all that money.

In an interview late Thursday on Fox News, Gingrich said that he only worked about an hour a month giving advice to Freddie Mac, the quasi-public mortage company that paid him up to $1.8 million in fees.

As long as that money didn’t come from the taxpayers, then I have no problem.

All good points. We have the most influence over congressmen so that needs to be our main focus. We need all three branches to roll back the beast but we need to hold ground when that’s the best we can do. I believe Obama is going to be a weak candidate like Carter was and this may be the best chance for a conservative President for a long time ahead. I hate to see this opportunity squandered.

Doesn’t mean they’re not, either. Anyway, I was just responding in the spirit of the day around here.

As at least one other poster has mentioned - if we work hard perhaps the senate and the house will be Republican

The poster who said this must have a short memory.

We had all three branches of Govt and rubber stamping is all
we got. And if by chance, they don’t rubber stamp, u will have that system clogging bunch, the 14 Gangsters raise their ugly heads again. An endless cycle.

Newt is as insider as you will get. You will not notice
any changes in your interaction with the government.
Santorum will be about the same as Newt.

With Bachmann, Cain, Perry, Paul & Johnson you will notice
significant change.

With Huntsman & Romney there will be small changes.

This is just total BS! Just because he mentioned the rep from FMFM came bye once a month, does not mean that was the only time he worked issues for them. Has anyone asked why the media is so hell bent on Newt’s salary vs the Obama admin approving millions in bonuses for FMFM managers who continually run a balance sheet red! Tell me the media is not in the tank with liberally democrats and I’ll say BS!

The democrats have thrown 4 trillion which is 4 MILLION MILLION dollars down a black hole..
And Newt is pilloried for trying to get some of it???

They have pigeon holed ALL info on where those bucks went..
EXCEPT..... for the paltry sum Newt got..

Something seems wrong here...
Wonder how many democrats benefited for this windfall?..
We might never know..

Doesn’t mean they’re not, either.

Actually, it does. Fred has been a member of FR since 1997. Suggesting he is a paid DU hack is tantamount to saying the proprietors of FR aren't smart enough to know that a DU infiltrator has gotten by their defenses for 14 years. At minimum it's an insult. At worst it's a lie. And given that I really don't think you believe it -- well...

He was paid to influence GOP Congressman not to dig so deep into Freddie Mac’s problems, see we hired one of you, we aren’t so bad, leave us alone.

You are correct.

Until Newt comes clean and admits this is just business as usual, this is how it works in Washington, he's just another lying, slimy DC pol. He likes to come off as so incorruptible, honest and intelligent. Now's the time to come clean and lay it out there for all to see. It's a perfect time what with the 60 minutes Congresspeople insider trading segment.

Yes, they all do it, that's why they will spend $20 million to get a $200,000/yr job. Come on Newt, man up and tell everyone the dirty little secret instead of bombarding us with words. I swear, I'd vote for him in a second if he would only just be completely honest. But it will never happen.

You seem to NOT realize that things have changed in the last decade or so..for the worse!

This time, the Tea Party will insure that these newly elected folks will adhere to a stricter program than in the past. Things change and the changes that are coming are either going to save up or destroy us!

Do NOT compare the upcoming elections with the past! The future of America now depends on the actions of the voters.

“Call me foolish, but I think that is kind of expense for a history lesson.”

Didn’t Obama’s former right hand man, Rahmbo, once work for Freddie or Fannie? I seem to recall that he made several million bucks for about 5 months work. How much is that per hour, Fred? You’re pretty slick with math. Is that also expense, Fred?

They have changed for the worse because of the hacks on both sides have spend like drunken sailors for decades.

We are reaping what decades of out of control spending has sowed. I get it quite well.

Absolutely! All of this should not only be illegal but penalized - criminal justice!

The only problem I have is bring it up now during the election when probably the Democrats are far worse offenders.

Now if we could just elect people of decency, this would be not only against the law but would provide for criminal penalties...but don’t expect Congress to pass any laws that pertain to them...geez.

Raines was hired by clintoon and bush left him in the office for a long time and then mel martinze took over. He got as rich as raines. At the same time newt was milking the place as well. When the republicans lost the house in 2008 newt lost his gravey train . Influence peddling pays well.
