JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Alluding to the scandal embroiling his ascendant campaign, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich told a crowd in Jacksonville, Fla., Thursday that he would “cheerfully answer every single question” reporters had.

Following the event, however, he refused to answer any questions about the work he did for mortgage giant Freddie Mac.

In recent days, it has been revealed that Gingrich earned $1.6 million for work he did for Freddie Mac, the agency many blame for the housing bubble that preceded the financial crisis.

“In the next three weeks I predict to you, we’ll have all sorts of questions about me,” he said. “And it’s fine. You cannot ask the people of the United States to [give] you the most powerful governmental job in the world, particularly on a campaign that is promising very dramatic change, and not have them vet you carefully and thoroughly.

Isn’t it AMAZING how Hussein is never given a headline where he is said to allude the question?

Elude?

Newt is why we won a majority in the 1990s...him and Rush.

I realize that my little rant will not be popular here, but.......when oh when will we stop the circular firing squad? If “my candidate” isn’t nominated, well, I’m taking my ball and I’m going home. In the meantime, as the msm attacks one conservative after another, why I’m going to join in the attack on him or her. I’m going to revel in the fact that my candidate isn’t the one being attacked. Until mine is attacked. Which will happen.

The mainstream media IS the Obama re-election team. WHY is anyone giving ANY credibility to ANYTHING they ask ANY candidate on our side?

Just keep the circular firing squad going. I am so concerned for the future of my country.

Democrats sucked LITERALLY Hundreds of millions of dollars out of Fanny Mae for their own pockets, and the coffers of Dem Orgs. Some of these people are in the Administration RIGHT NOW.

Democrats cooked the books at Fannie to cover up losses, and pad those bonuses. Some of these people are in the Administration RIGHT NOW.

But Gingrich is the bad guy because he took a contract that was offered to him years ago?

“they filed 84 ethics charges against him, 83 of which were dropped, and the one that they pursued (an IRS violation) was later found to be without merit”

Don’t forget, it was Frist and Hastert leading the charge to boot Gingrish. They wanted to create a crony system like the Democrats have today, for our side, remember?

And Gingrich stood in the way of that.

I also disagree with just about everything you said.

First: Innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Second: Newt has said he was paid as a consultant, so yes we know he was paid to do consulting work.

Your third and fourth point, I agree.

Fifth: Newt has answered questions about Freddie Mac. You stated “If all was sunshine and above board why the obfuscation?” This is a leftist tactic to cast doubt on the truth of what a person said. They tried the same with Herman Cain.

Sixth: I do not believe being a capitalist and working for a living in the pursuit of life, liberty and happiness is morally equivalent to killing babies.

Since Reagan, Newt Gingrich has done more for the conservative movement than any other person, bar none. The people of the United States who voted the Marxists into power are the ones who are responsible for the Marxist regime in Washington.

If Newt becomes our candidate, and you refuse to go to the polls and pull the lever for him, you are just as guilty of keeping the Marxist regime in power as the ones who pull the lever for Barak Obama.

“Newt may not be a Marxist.”

Thanks for sharing that insight.

“In the next three weeks I predict to you, we’ll have all sorts of questions about me,”

What is up with these candidates that think it is acceptable to release information days or weeks after they are asked. Can’t Newt take a look at how that has hurt Perry. During debates that were about economy and other items, he would always announce that he would release his program days later. That is one of many reasons why he is down in low single digits. People want to hear from you Newt, yesterday, not three weeks from now...

"This is obviously going to be the line of attack they’re going to take."

The tactics they used on Sarah Palin were first used on Newt and for the same reason; Elected Conservatives Must be Destroyed.

It is very sad to see all the useful idiots helping the Marxists accomplish their goal of destroying Newt, the man that has done more for conservatives then anyone since Reagan. The most conservative Speaker of the House in the modern era. The man that twice shut down the Federal Government battling Bill Clinton. Newt balanced the budget, Newt kept his promises in the Contract with America and Newt reformed welfare. Show me ANYONE since Reagan with that kind of conservative record.

To be a conservative, you must support and protect the sanctity of marriage. Newt CLEARLY is on the wrong side of this.

I agree and lately when I read FR I wonder how many on here are really Freepers and how many are concern trolls. Of course Hussein will win again because Republicans are hell bent on doing nothing but eating their own. Maybe not on all forum but here on FR for sure. Sarah said anybody but Hussein and that's how I intend to vote because NONE of them are worse than him.

Fifth, Newt’s refusal to answer questions about his specific Freddie Mac involvement means there is something he hopes to hide. If all was sunshine and above board why the obfuscation? This is very similar to his “inexplicable” explanation for sharing a love seat with Pelosi. This is what the arrogant political elite do when the little people ask too many questions.

Really? The reports so far have indicated that Newt has a confidentiality agreement with Fannie. Such confidentiality agreements are said to be pro forma for these types of contracts. A confidentiality agreement would tend to hinder one's ability to "answer questions about his specific Freddie Mac involvement."

As I understand it, Newt can request from Freddie to be released from parts, or all, of the confidentiality agreement. However, he can't demand it and it's up the Freddie to agree. I've seen reports and the interview with Greta that Newt was working to do just that. We'll see.

To the larger point - I don't think anybody cares about this so called scandal. It's got the legs of a fish.
