Here's the rub: what does it mean to be Kosher? The problem is that we don't have a true, agreed-upon-by-everybody standard for kosher, and rabbis can argue about this pretty much forever. 
It's bad enough it has become a bit of a joke inside Jewish communities, in my opinion!
