Top Ten Most Overrated Actors/Actresses of All Time by Ben Shapiro
Its been almost two years since I posted at Big Hollywood regarding the Top 10 Most Overrated Directors of All Time. Ive had a chance to reflect and think about the crimes I committed in that post. And, to paraphrase Mr. Eko from the greatest TV show of all time, Lost, I ask no forgiveness because I have committed no sin except leaving Spike Lee and Tim Burton off the list, that is.
So, because you all enjoyed that list so much, and because I apparently have a death wish, its time for another: The Top 10 Most Overrated Actors/Actresses of All Time.
Unlike last time, I will claim that these are objective facts, not subjective opinions, so that all my critics may have full liberty to attack me (To those same critics who claimed last time that I phrased my opinions in an objective manner, this is called being facetious. That means Im kidding. Also, seriously? That was your criticism?).

You missed Julia Roberts.
I’d replace DeNiro with Adam Sandler.
Actually, the list is MUCH loger tahn 10!
LOTR was the first and last movie(s) I saw Viggo in. Never heard of him prior to that. What didn’t you like about the way he played Aragorn, and who would you have cast for that role? Jackson omitted so much of the last chapters of ROTK that the ‘kingly’ and ‘healing’ natures of the Aragorn character were never really developed. If you are going to say that Viggo is not a swordfigher, I’d have to concede that point to you, but I thought he played the softer, elvish, thoughtful side of Aragorn pretty convincingly. My $.02 FWIW.
Ten isn’t enough.
Unfortunately, IMHO, today's "popularity" and "number..." results in a list with only one (1) person with outstanding "acting" ability.
(Of course DeNiro is really a throwback to the days when acting ability was required.)
My problem with Burton is that he didn't do movies; he did stage acting in the movies.
My problem with Bette is that she didn't do movies; she overdid them.
And I can easily respect that opinions do vary greatly on these two.
“What didnt you like about the way he played Aragorn, and who would you have cast for that role?”
My beef with Viggo in LOTR was that in his Strider persona, he didn’t seem dangerous, wry or rough enough. And then later when he accepted his role as heir to the throne, he just wasn’t kingly. He just didn’t seem like a man who could *command* an army of wraiths to rise up and follow him!
Viggo is awfully pretty to look at, though. So there’s that. ;o)
Viggo Mortenson liberal loony, but was great in Crimson Tide, Eastern Promises, and A History of Violence. See the reference to Ed Harris above. Wonderful characters both.
Subtract points though for that scene with Kathy Bates.
LOL! Kathy Bates was probably salivating at the idea she could get paid to get naked in a movie. Too bad it actually sickened the audience. And that was before I knew what a liberal fool she is.
Has Nicholson made a lot of bad films lately? Yes. Has he chewed the scenery in a lot of his flicks? Yes. But overall, Nicholson is one of the few actors who can play a variety of roles, including bad guys, and really make you believe it.
