What Killed JFK (barf alert: "right wing" hatred threatens Obama..just as it "ended" JFK's life)
New York Magazine ^ | November 20, 2011 | Frank Rich

Posted on 11/21/2011 8:38:16 AM PST by Seizethecarp

Immediately after the assassination and ever since, the right has tried to deflect any connection between its fevered Kennedy hatred and Oswald’s addled psyche with the fact that the assassin had briefly defected to the Soviet Union.

America’s violent culture wars had started before JFK was shot. They were all on display in Oswald’s Dallas. At least in 1963, polling showed that only 5 percent of the country—a fringe—subscribed to the radical anti-government views championed by the John Birch Society and other militants of the right. These days, that fringe, whether in the form of birthers or the tea party or the hosts of Fox & Friends, gives marching orders to a major political party.

…read Manchester or 11/22/63 or any other account of that time, and the vitriol that was aimed at Kennedy in life seems as immediate as today. It’s as startling as that “You lie!” piercing the solemnity of a presidential address like a gunshot—or the actual gunshots fired at the White House last week by another wretched waif. In the end, that political backdrop is what our 44th and 35th presidents may have most in common. The tragedy of the Kennedy cult is that even as it fades, the hothouse brand of American malice that stalked its hero stalks our country still.

After 8 years of Bush bashing they have a lot of nerve. Bush was bashed harder and more often than JFK for sure. Harder than hussein by far too.

"I think of RFK and the first moslem terrorist attack and his murder"

According to everything that I've ever read, Sirhan Sirhan wasn't a Muslim.

As a boomer who grew up in Washington, D.C., I was an eyewitness to the JFK inaugural on that bone-chilling January morning. My adolescence ended with the unfathomable news of that Friday afternoon of 11/22/63.

Actually, I don't think Frank Rich's adolescence has ended yet.

My family was not in politics or journalism, but I had seen the young president with his wife at the theater one night, dazzling a startled audience with that ski instructor’s tan and those amazingly white teeth.

Or his awkward adolescent sexual confusion.

Like almost every other American, I spent four straight days after the assassination watching television, and getting up to speed on the noirish Dallas atmosphere that would soon be compounded by Jack Ruby’s assassination of the assassin, the only murder I have seen broadcast live on television.

Not like the rest of us who see murders broadcast every week?

Rich's article is pretty much what you'd expect.

What would have been daring would have been for him to write and publish such an article when a Republican was in the White House and a target of hatred from the left.

Kennedy didn't want to break up the banks. He inherited his father's desire to break into the Establishment. JFK succeeded at that and surrounded himself with Establishment types, including big bankers.

If Kennedy were going to break up the Federal Reserve, why'd he make C. Douglas Dillon of Dillon, Read & Co. his Secretary of the Treasury?

And if he hated the CIA, why had he been such an enthusiast for secret operations and unconventional warfare?

The President who loved James Bond novels and the Green Berets didn't have anything against the CIA, though he may have wanted more of his own people in charge.

Lyndon Johnson was a right winger who'd been in the USSR? I n ever knew that, but it does explain a few things about his presidency....

I remember as a 10-year-old kid being puzzled at how much difficulty everyone was having trying to identify the killer. As a kid it just seemed like common sense to me that the killer must be the new President.

But surely he didn't do it all by himself? Somebody must have been in on it with him, in place at the right time to reap the rewards....

Back in the mid 1980s I spent several weeks in Dallas going through a training program. On the first day each person stood up, introduced them self and gave a brief talk about who they were etc.

One guy, one of the few actually from Dallas, mentioned that he had known Jack Ruby pretty well.

A week or so later 5 or 6 of us were having lunch together and someone asked him about Ruby. It turned out he really did know him very well. He admitted he didn’t know more than anyone else about the assassination except that Ruby was higher up in the underworld than he is portrayed. He is always presented as just a guy on the fringes of the Mafia.

Just ordered a used copy from Amazon. Sounds like a great read judging by the blurbs and reviews.

JFK was killed by Castro’s man, Lee Harvey Oswald.

JFK should’ve put more effort into his lame attempts to have Castro assassinated first.

wrong

now you are going to say the windshield is in the way?

geez thats a new one

Look at the Zapruder film- let me know if you see about 5 feet of wide open space between the windshield and the president?

The shot came from the front RIGHT - not dead-ahead, through the windshield.

And despite what you WANT (a non moving target) that is clearly not what you had.

The shot came from the front right, that is why his head goes back and to the left.

back, and to the left

back, and to the left

The shot came from the rear. The outshoot is the right front skull flap. This is plainly visible in the Zapruder film (of which I have an "archival" copy). You see the material spray forward

The first shot missed hitting behind the moving vehicle. Jacket material from the ricochet struck JFK in the back of the head and the inside front windshield landing on the floor of the vehicle where it was found. Kennedy says that he has been shot. (Hard to do if the first shot is the head shot). The second shot struck Kennedy in the back exiting below his collar. (This projectile also struck Connelly--The 6.5mm 160gr heavily jacketed round nose bullet used in the M-C can penetrate 47" inches of pine. It could easily travers two bodies). The third shot is the dramatic shot captured in Abraham Zapruder's super-8 film. All shots came from the rear.

Oliver Stone's mantra aside the forensic evidence is clear. Bodies do not respond to gunshots the way they are portrayed in hollywood--flying across rooms, etc. A head shot scrambles the CNS causing all kinds of involuntary muscle movement. The inshoot (small) and outshoot (large) will reveal the trajectory.

The only reasonable book on this subject that I've read is by Bonar Menninger "Mortal Error". Amazon Link. It documents the efforts of Howard Donahue, a ballistics expert and shooter who bettered Oswalds supposedly impossible feat, to communicate what the evidence reveals.

wrong again

there is a still photograph taken from behind that shows the moment of impact and a huge spray out the rear of his head

his brains were also on the back of the vehicle, which is what Jackie O is seen crawling out the back of the car to retrieve

if the shot came from the back, then there would have been blowout on the front LEFT of his forehead, not front right

here is a photo of kennedy- show me where this 'outshoot' occurred in front that would explosively propel his head backwards?

I have seen simulation where there was blowback out the front that did propel a test object backwards - in 1 out of 100 attempts- but when it did, the front of the object tested was an exploded-out mess.

can you send me a copy of this ‘archival’ copy of the zaprudewr film?

I am currently working on some software to remove the jerking motion of the camera- by isolating the moton of the car and centering on a stationary position of the seat of the car.

which should more clearly show the relative motion of the people inside the car.
