Former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee gave his thoughts on the 2012 Republican presidential candidates Sunday in an interview with WABC’s Aaron Klein. As the candidates continue to trade rankings in the national polls, Huckabee, who won the Iowa caucuses in his own election bid in 2008, spoke of former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney’s chances of winning the primary. The former Republican presidential candidate urged conservative Republicans to support Romney because he believes the former Massachusetts Gov. has the best chance of defeating Barack Obama in 2012.
“Mitt Romney may not be their first choice, but Mitt Romney every day of the week and twice on Sunday is going to be a much more effective president for issues that they care about than Barack Obama,” Huckabee told Klein. “I think sometimes there is this anxiety within the Republican Party of who is the perfect candidate. The answer is there isn’t one,” the former Arkansas governor added.
Romney came in second behind Huckabee in the 2008 Iowa caucuses, largely because of Huckabee’s popularity among social conservatives in the state. A Bloomberg poll of likely Iowa voters last week showed a four way tie between Romney, Herman Cain, Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul. Huckabee’s popularity in Iowa could work in Romney’s favor as the countdown to the Iowa caucuses begins.
The former Arkansas governor urged Tea Party Republicans to throw their support behind Romney. “I think Republicans and conservatives and the Tea Party need to get behind him and say, ‘You may not be our first choice, but between you and Obama, I’ll vote 40 times to get you elected,” Huckabee said.
That’s an intellectual statement. So, what is your solution to beating Obama? Ron Paul?

I agree. I’m for Newt 100%...Let’s say MR gets the nod..? We sit @ home on election day? I have to hold my nose and pull the lever for MR. What an opportunity we had...we just have crap candidates...Newt, being the best of the worst, IMHO.
IF Romney is the nominee, I will vote for him, simply because I think it’s imperative to get Barack Obama out of the White House. I think he would be a much better President than Obama. I would vote for my cat before I’d vote for Obama, or sit home and take the chance that Obama would be reelected.

Nope it won’t work, it will just destroy Huckabee’s reputation. I’m actually shocked he would say such a thing as urging folks to support Romney.
I certainly expect the Tea Party people to vote for Romney if he does get the GOP nomination. It would be criminal for them not to. We will not survive as a free country if BO is in for 4 more years. I ope the Tea Party is aware of this and doesn’t screw us up as Romney does have an excellent chance of beating BO, Ron Paul has no chance.

I may yet end up voting for Romney in the General Election IF he gets the nomination. The only two I would probably NOT vote for would be Ron Paul and Jon Hunstman - and if I was convinced it was them or Obama, I might even vote for one of them.
Of course he does. There is a nice cabinet post or overseas gig waiting for him.
It’s not going to happen. Why all this talk about voting for Romney? He doesn’t have a chance and the standard shouldn’t be ‘anyone that is better than Obama’. If that is the best we will hold the GOP too then we are doomed. A bad Democrat(aren’t they all bad?) doesn’t make a bad Republican good. We see the results in California when Grey Davis was replaced with a bad Republican. If anything it hurt the GOP.
Just as now the blurring of the budget issue debate is hurting hurting the GOP. It is no coincidence that the rise of the Tea Party and outspoken opposition to the Obamacare also coincided with a rise in Conservative/GOP id. We have to have higher standards and expect more and strive for bold colors and clarity. Those that would give life to liberal premises are not the leaders we need.

One thing did in Mitt Romney in 2008: Mitt Romney. Republicans didn't like him in 2008 and it is clear that he is no more popular in 2012. He can't rise about 20-25% in the polls because most Republicans will tell you that their favorite candidate is Anyone But Romney.
IMO, Romney would have fought against Hussein better than McAmnesty. I grant his weaknesses...but I don’t think he would’ve been the puss McInsane was.
