I think you mean “eminent” domain....and in this case the taking may be appropriate and appreciated by the property owners.

“Surveillance is the way to go”
I agree. A fence would be of little use and would be easily breached within three weeks or so. A combination of ground sensors and air assets would do a good job.
There would probably have to be some bad firefights to press the point home.

Yes I did mean "eminent." Thanks for the correction.
I think if you put it to a vote, property owners would want surveillance and not stripped of their real estate.

I think if you put it to a vote, Eminent Domain takings aren't subject to a vote.

Harris County has the highest rate of death penalty convictions in the nation. These four will die, either at the hands of the state of Texas, or in the general prison population, executed by Zetas who do not want these guys to rat on them. They are dead men walking.
In the mean time, hopefully the state of Texas can use information from them to find the other Zetas and to trace the guns (”Fast and Furious”?).

THe one thing missing in that vidoe is the “doomdoomdoom’ sound as the 30mm cuts lose on the vehicle - the border is bad now, how bad does it have to get before more positive measures are taken?

Drug cartels have absolutely nothing to do with sanctuary cities or with in-state tuition for illegals. They are violent thugs preying on all of us for a buck. They did not come here for free medical care, education, or the comforts of a US life style. They want our money and are willing to kill to get it.

Eminent Domain takings aren't subject to a vote. I was responding to a comment that suggested property owners would be "appreciative."
I have another view of the matter, that property owners (state's rights/10th amendment notice) should be put to a vote if we're going to build a fence and strip them of their property. The idea that the federal government move in and seize property by eminent domain because certain people "think" its the best idea and alienating the citizens in the process is approaching a totalitarian authority and I oppose the hell out of it.
Boots on the ground and aviation in the air can actually arrest people, interrogate them, accumulate intelligence and protect national security.
But hey, there is no perfect solution and I don't pretend there is.

I wonder which of our Constitutional rights they will decide to further trample in the name of this latest escalation of their failed war on drugs.

Only problem with a wall is 73% of the Texas-Mexico border is on private property. How many millions of acres taken in by imminent domain? I thought conservatives opposed big government taking over our private property rights. Sorry. This is a red herring. Just like I have easements between my yard and the street, the government has every right to require an easement between the U.S. and an uncivilized place like mexico.

>>73% of the Texas-Mexico border is on private property.<<
The border is federal property. It may run through or adjacent to private property.
Think of it as a utility easement....on steroids.
