Gun-rights activist Krysta Sutterfield was charged Tuesday with carrying a concealed weapon for wearing a holstered gun under her jacket as she used the wireless Internet connection outside the Sherman Perk Coffee Shop late at night, according to a criminal complaint.
If convicted of the misdemeanor charge, Sutterfield, 42, faces a maximum penalty of nine months in jail and a fine of $10,000.
A recently passed Wisconsin law allows people to carry concealed weapons if they have a permit. Sutterfield is among close to 40,000 people who have applied for the permits, but she had not yet received one at the time of her arrest on Nov. 11, her attorney, Rebecca Coffee, said last week.
Sutterfield also is fighting two municipal tickets stemming from the same incident: one for loitering or prowling and another for obstructing an officer, according to Coffee.

What an idiot.
Coffee contended that Sutterfield, who was working on a laptop in her car at the time of her arrest, tucked her jacket behind her holster to be sure her gun would be visible.WTF?But police contend Sutterfield's gun was covered by her jacket when they initially approached her car, the complaint says.
Nah —cops made it all up. They don’t like open carry in Milwaukie so they’re simply trying to scare people out of it.
This is just an attempt at intimidation.
Saw an amazing video the other day —some PD denied a guy his app for CC so he did something amazing:
He began walking to work through the downtown area carrying an AK with am empty mag...! And technically it was legal.
They couldn’t arrest him, just reallly hassle him. And they told him, “Yeah well...we MUST respond to these calls, just so ya know..”
And he’s STILL doing it..!
Whether she’s bright or not, this sort of attitude on the part of police in *some* areas is not good.
Police in Idaho don’t behave that way. I got stopped because I forgot (double facepalm) to renew my registration. When the officer came to my window, I handed him my DL and concealed weapons license together.
He never said a word about me carrying a weapon. Didn’t ask if I was, didn’t ask to see it, nothing. Just like it ought to be.
I have several other examples, too.
For example carrying an AK from the parking lot of a gun range, in public sight, into the range, would not be prohibited under such a law, because the public would be expected to see weapons being brought into a rifle range.
If on the other hand, he was carrying it through downtown to mess with people's heads, then he could run afoul of such a law.
As far as I can tell, the police complaint says that an officer asked her if she was carrying a concealed weapon. She said no. The officer said he could plainly see the black handle of her holstered pistol, so he arrested her for having a concealed weapon.
She was sitting in her car in a parking lot surfing the net off of a wireless access point whose owner had given her permission to do so.
So, how is she an idiot?
Bad cop, no donut. I suspect that they won’t be able to get a conviction.
He does his gun walk. Some citizen calls the cops. A LEO who has not interacted with him before walks up behind him. The LEO can not see if the AK is loaded or unloaded, because the man is carrying it in front of him. All the LEO can see from the back is those parts of gun which are sticking out from past his body, the stock and the muzzle, gas tap/block, gas tube, etc, which the LEO clearly recognizes an being parts of an AK
LEO tells man to stop. Man decides to turn around and in the process, swings the muzzle toward the cop. LEO sees muzzle pointed at him, doesn't know if man has the short 5 round mag in the weapon, or even just one in the chamber.
LEO draws, shoots and kills man.
Citizen “exercising his rights” is dead because he was stupid. He might have been within the law, LEO did nothing wrong, and Citizen is dead for being felony stupid.
That’s an awful lot of supposing. Especially the accidentally pointing the muzzle at the cop part.
In fact, I have never heard of someone who did this as you describe. It is pretty clear if someone has there hand on the pistol grip of an AK in such a way as to be able to fire it in the direction of someone else.
At 67, I have learned a number of things, first among them, “never be surprised at the stupid things some people do.”
How about if it happened on Thursday when the sun was shining? Or maybe after the Dodgers win the World Series? Or after he got an oil change at Jiffy Lube?
Or...
Yes... We know you don't like guns. You prove it every time you post silly crap like this.
Don't make up a lot of garbage about him and call him dumb.
Let the guy do those things and then talk about how stupid he was.
Can you wait that long to be surprised?
What in the hell are you talking about?
Do you even know?
Working in her car? Is not the inside of a vehicle considered private property in WS? If she is parked there is no moving violation so the police should have left her alone you would think.
I used to spend alot of time in the same city and always had a weapon at hand when I was using my laptop.
